Williams Cemetery

Submitted by Rick & Joy Tucker

Directions: Follow directions to Powell Cemetery, but keep going past that cemetery. When you see the Idlewild Water Tower, turn off onto that road (Mt. Pisgah Road) on the right.  The cemetery would have been at the summit of the first hill on this road on the right. There is now a house near the location and horses are in the actual cemetery location.

The Williams Family Cemetery was the burial place of Jeremiah Williams (b. ca 1795, d. 18??) and his last wife, Eliza Williams
(b. ca 1800, d. 18??). There was also a Thetford woman said to be buried there. Adam McCartney is a descendant of Jeremiah
through his first wife (name unknown). Their eldest child, William W. Williams (1824-1906) was the great-great-great- grandfather of Adam McCartney. He married Caroline Dawson and she died young, as did their son Henry. He remarried Luiza E. Williams, his cousin, and they had Carroll Huston Williams (Adam's g-g-grandfather), Alexander LaFayette Williams, and Bessie Beatrice "Bess" Williams Sellers (Photo). They are all (except Alex) buried at Pounds & Idlewild Cemetery, near the Williams Cemetery.

Information was provided by Odis Williams, son of Carroll H. Williams, of the Mt. Pisgah community. Odis lives less than a quarter mile from where the cemetery once was. He remembers it distinctly.
