Atchison County Mail, Feb. 2, 1917, page 8 Rock Port, Missouri Obituary REYNOLDS Seletha Reynolds was born on Jan. 20, 1837, Gibson County Tennessee and died on January 26th, 1917, at Rock Port, Missouri, aged 80 years and 6 days. She was the daughter of William Smith Reynolds and Rachel Frazier, Reynolds. In 1859, she with her 2 sisters, Mrs. Josephus (Mary) Perry, and Winnie, and 2 brothers, William and Wesley, and Mrs. Perrys husband, started to Missouri, coming by railroad 75 miles, then taking the steamboat from Columbus, Kentucky, up the Missouri river, landing at what was known as Cooks' Landing, near Brownville, Nebraska. In 1864, they bought eighty acres of land of William Frazier, south of Phelps City, and started farming for themselves. While here, their brother William died in 1884 and in 1893 their sister Winnie died. Then, in 1901, they sold their farm and bought property in Phelps City. In 1885, Seletha united with the Christian church at Phelps City and remained a true and faithful servant until the end. She leaves to mourn her loss, one brother, Wesley, five nephews and one niece (children of Mary & Josephus) two half sisters, Belle Carman and Louise McDonnell. Funeral services were held at the residence of John Phelps (nephew-in-law) in Rock Port at 10:00 am, conducted by Rev. D.M. Phillipi and the remains were interred at Millsap cemetery on Sunday, January 28. *My comments* Mary Reynolds, Perry, was kinda old, she was mrr: Oct. 1859, age 27 ! Seletha was 24, Wesley was 22, William was 20, Winnie was 14...As far as I know, none of them were ever married...They worked on the farm, lied about their ages, all the time...I don't know if they were so ugly they never married or all so handsome and pretty that they couldn't choose...The William Frazier that they bought the property from, I don't know if he was an Uncle, or not...Wesley was the last one and how ironic that he died at the County Farm...and his nephew John Wesley Perry, working there...I found John Wesley Perry, in 2 censuses...One, at his home and again at his Aunts and Uncles farm...Probably putting up hay for the summer.
