US genweb has a map locater site online on the Ten Gen Web page and on the Wilson County page. It picked up Leeville and Loehmans Store and gave me the map details.
Does anyone know of any lookup services in Wilson County?
I was born there but now live in Houston.
I am looking for my
Tripp/Trippe, Pulley and Stewart relatives
(Great Grandma was Josie Mai Stewart).

Fay, I'm a DRENNAN descendant from Wilson County;
James DRENNAN, who d. 1767, is buried at the Suggs Creek Cemetery.
He and Frances
DeVault (d. 1831) were parents of eleven offspring, including my ancestor Joseph DRENNAN (1811-1881).
I found a neat mapping site for cemeteries:
http//www-nmd.usgs.gov/cgi-bin/wow/Tiger.Mapserver
With it I easily found Mt. Juliet Cemetery, where more of my kin now lie.

Looking for information or others researching the following. Jeremiah Bowers married Margaret Eason in 1809 in Sumner Co. They lived in Wilson Co. by the 1830 census as well as his son, Bartlett Bowers who married Mary Mahaffey, 1823, Wilson Co.
Margaret Eason had two brothers, Eli and Ira Eason, also living in Wilson Co.
The Easons were all born in NC, probably Nash Co. Mary Mahaffey was supposedly born in SC.
Would like to know how the other Bowers families in Wilson Co. and Davidson Co. might be related to Jeremiah and who Jeremiah Bowers' parents are.
Also need to know who Mary Mahaffey's parents are.
I have other data on these families as well.

I'm researching a group of families in Wilson County in the early 1800s who spread to surrounding counties by mid 1800s.
Marcus Nickens m. Annina Osbrook or Ausbrook in 1826 in Wilson Co.
Their son William Thomas Nickens married Nancy E. Bass 22 Sept. 1847 in Williamson Co.
Another Nickens (relationship uncertain), James W., married Nancy's sister Fannie Bass 23 Feb 1849 in Marshall Co. Listed with James and Fannie in the 1850 Marshall County census was Darith (Dortha) Ausbrook.
Parents of Nancy and Fannie were Thomas (born about 1806 in VA) and Elizabeth (born about 1813) Bass.
William Thomas and James W. Nickens moved with families (including Thomas and Elizabeth Bass, and apparently Dortha Ausbrook) to Illinois by 1860.
Is anyone researching any related families?

Donna -
Thank you for posting the info on early settlements in Wilson County.
Several of the names were of interest to me. Dawson
Hancock was my 3rd great uncle, son of Samuel, my 3rd great grandfather. Samuel came with Dawson from NC to Wilson, TN. Samuel died 1813 in Wilson, TN. Other family members came later.
Dawson Hancock bought 67 acres 15 Jam 1811. On 17 Apr 1815 he bought 110 acres on Round Lick; 23 Dec 1819 he bought 300 acres on Barton's Creek; 22 Apr 1819 he bought 107 acres on Barton's Creek; 28 Sep 1821 he bought 89 acres on Barton's Creek; and on 11 Aug 1826 he bought 88 acres on Pond Lick Creek.
John Hancock, Dawson's brother, and my great great grandfather, on 14 Sep 1812 bought 77 acres on Pond Lick; 12 Jul 1815 h e bought 640 acres on the So. side of Cumberland River; Oct 1816 he bought 100 acres on Spring Creek.
Richard Hancock on 1 Sep 1812 bought 20 acres on Smith's Fork; 19 Jul 1815 bought 62 acres on Clear Fork; 8 Apr 1820 bought 130 acres on Hickman's Creek; 10 Jan 1823 bought 65 acres on Smith's Fork; and 24 Mar 1821 bought 100 acres on Hurricane Creek.
Simon Hancock on 6 Jul 1811 bought 160 acres on Barton's Creek; 18 Oct 1817 50 acres; 22 Sep 1818 8 acres; 3 Feb 1821 48 acres, all on Barton's Creek.
Samuel Hancock on 7 Oct 1816 bought 235 acres on the Sp. side of Cumberland River. Wesley Hancock on 31 Aug 1820 bought 60 acres on Sinking Creek.
Skean Hancock on 17 Jun bought 84 acres on Spring Creek; 19 Sep 1822 bought 60 acres on Barton's Creek; Dec 1827 bought 50 acres on Round Lick Creek; and 10 Nov 1827 bought 87 acres on Round Lick Creek.
These Hancocks sold some of these lands to Etheldred
Clemmons, John Clemmons, John Skeen, Clinton Baird, James Richmond, Lemuel Hickman, Hugh Marrs, John Hickman, and Jesse Wade.
I am especially interested in learning more about Aquila
Suggs and Benjamin Hooker of Suggs Creek and of any Suggs connections to Allen or Avery.

Houston Hodges,
Thank you for your response about your Drennan relatives. Of all the families I am researching, the Drennons have been the most elusive, so I was excited to see your posting. I know of only two facts about the Drennons, and that is that Martha Abigail
Drennon married William Reuben Satterfield, and that they lived in Wilson Co., TN.
They were the parents of my grandmother Selena Bell Satterfield Weaver b: 1876.
I have no dates connected to Martha, but using William's Civil War service age, he enlisted at 16, I estimate Martha as well as William as having been born in the 1840's. Using that time frame, it is possible that Martha might have been related to your Joseph Drennan.
Is there any significance in the fact that the last names of Martha and Joseph are different?
Are there two families or different spellings of the same family?
I would be interested in knowing what you think about the names and, also, any more information you could share about your Drennans.

To the List,
To anyone interested in Tennessee history, I can reccommend the new
"Tennessee Encyclopedia of History & Culture", put out this summer by the Tennessee Historical Society. It's quite hefty and well worth the $30 I paid. I understand that the Historical Society will benefit more if it's ordered from them, but I think most of the larger bookstores have it.

Also to the List:
You can find info on the above book, "
Tennessee Encyclopedia of History & Culture" on the Tennessee Historical Society web page at:
http://members.aol.com/genny1/tennhist.html
The price, however, is quoted at more than the $30 dollars mentioned above...I don't know why..as the info was taken straight from the THS brochure about the book..

I just found out last night from my dad that my aunt was married to a BILBRO.
Her name was Fronie
BARNES and she married Wilson BILBRO in Wilson Co. TN.
The BARNES family lived in Hopewell. Fronie and Wilson BILBRO owned a store
that was next to a pasture or farm where where they sold meat, milk etc. Dad said something about it being on the pike. The only names of the children that he could remember were Bernadin and Anna Lou BILBRO. I would love to find more information on this family. I don't have any dates but Fronie was the sister of my grandfather Walter Alexander BARNES and he was born in 1883. I think she was younger but I'm not sure. I hope this will help you and I both and hopefully someone else will have more information.

Correction
: The children of Fronie BARNES and Wilson BILBRO was not Bernadine
and Anna Lou. Fronie and Wilson had a son named Earl BILBRO.
Anna Lou was Fronie's sister married to Willie (William?) DAVIS.
The children of Anna Lou Barnes and Willie DAVIS were,
Bernadine, Inez, Hermal, and Dolford (spelling?)
I'm sorry about the mistake. I was taking notes so fast when my dad was talking I got them mixed up. I talked to him again tonight and he corrected me.
Maybe there's two connections here? <G>

Julia French Wood,
Thanks for the reminder. I should have mentioned the
Rootsweb Interactive Search feature in my previous message announcing the new archives...
However, the new archives are a little different and serve a different purpose. Nancy's archives of TNWILSON are in a little better format for browsing through, rather than searching for a specific surname or date (although they can be used for that purpose as well).
What Nancy has done is concatenate the digests (in groups of ten) into a single file, and converted that file to HTML format for web site viewing.
In other words, you can pull up one of the archives, say number two, and with that single file loaded into your browser, scroll down through volumes 11 through 20 without ever having to reload or click another file. Rather convenient, huh?
Thanks again for the reminder and the URL.

So, if you have anything saved in your filing cabinet, you'd better put them on floppies. I had most of my addresses saved on floppies and some of my e-mails that I save on each of my different lines, but I didn't have them all saved. You'd better believe I will do it from now on.

When searching the archives, I suggest using the search (or find) feature of your browser to quickly find the names you are looking for. Be sure to check all variations. You can even search for part of the name. For example, when searching for PULLEY, I would enter PULL to get hits that contain the name spelled with and without the E. You will get bogus hits from time to time depending on what you search for; but with practice on what enter, you can minimize and even eliminate bogus hits.

Hi Dana,
Wonder if you could post more on your Holloway family in Wilson County?
Somehow or another, my husband's ancestor, Martha E. Lane Goodman, was related to the Holloway's, as she and her brother were named in either Levi Holloway, or Ezekiel Holloway's will (This was mentioned in one of Thomas Partlow's books, but I don't have my papers in front of me, and can't remember which) as "grandchildren", but I do not see a connection in the info I have on this line, through the marriages I have listed.
Thanks,
Nancy Goodman in TN

Hello,
Regarding "the costly mistake" with the AOL program .... I don't have AOL, but I know with the Compuserve Software you can reload the program from the CD and that can repair damaged files allowing you to access the file folders, etc.
You might try reinstalling your AOL software, Connie, and see if that helps your database at all.

My AOL crashed and I had to re-install it and it put everything back just like it was. I didn't lose a thing. Tech support walked me right through it. They were great I hope it works for you..

Guill (Gill) and Gardner lines
We are wondering if someone might be able to assist us in our search of the Guill (possibly ?? Gill) line. This is our connection:
Marjorie
Phillips Wright  b. 11 Feb.1898- Nashville, Davidson Co., TN d. 9 June 1984- "
Sallie Price
Guill (Mother of Marjorie Phillips Wright) b. 2 Dec.1874 - possibly in Wilson Co., TN d. 15 Dec. 1952 - Nashville, Davidson Co., TN
Frances (Francis) Gardner Guill or Gardner Guill = Father of Sallie Price Guill b. possibly in Wilson Co., TN d. possibly in Wilson or Davidson Counties, TN
Frances Gardner Guill or Gardner Guill was married to Frances America (Mecca)
Swingley (daughter of John G. Swingley and Sarah McFarland, possibly from Bartous (Partous) Creek, Wilson Co.TN).
We have extensive information concerning the Swingley line linking them to Ulrich
Zwingli (1484-1531), the Swiss reformer and compatriot of Martin Luther.
Our information concerning the Guill line, however, is woefully deficient; and we are anxious to rectify that deficiency.
Any help you could lend us would be greatly appreciated.
Listed next is the information we do have about the children of Gardner Guill (or Francis Gardner Guill) and Frances A. Swingley:
Francis Gardner Guill Married to Frances America Swingley
CHILDREN
Eddine Guill
Sallie Price Guill
Eugene Guill
Stella Guill
If you can give us any information concerning any of these names, we would greatly appreciate it. I wonder if the Guill line is related to the Gill line in Knoxville, TN. Also we wonder if the Guill line is related (through marriage) to the
Gardner line (Francis Gardner, born Dec. 3, 1784, son of John Gardner & Mary Douglas....information from the Francis Douglas Gardner Bible and compiled by Mrs. Orville DeView of Knoxville, TN on Oct.28, 1963).
Any enlightenment on these subjects will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for further information on J.R. DRENNON b. 1856 d. 1926 and Paralee DRENNON b. 1857 d. 1929. They are buried in Rice Cemetery (east of Gladeville) in Wilson County.
I believe that Paralee was Elizabeth Paralee
LANE and a sister of my g-grandfather. This is all that I have and any further information would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Robyn

Robyn,
I, too, have been searching for Drennons in Wilson Co., Tn. My ancestor is Martha Abigail DRENNON who was born about 1850. She married William Reuben
SATTERFIELD (no date). Family history says that she was related to the GRAVES who were from Smyrna, TN.
I did find the following entry in the book
MARRIAGES OF WILSON CO.,TN 1802-1850:
John G.
DRENNAN and Elvira GRAVES 12 July 1848.
I am sorry that this is the only information I have at this time. I will save your posting and if I come across anything else, I will let you know.
Good luck in your searches.

Denton and related families
Hi!
I thought I would let y'all know that I have a lot of Tennessee families represented in my database at my web site for the Denton and related families. There are over 15,000 people in the database, plus a lot of other information on the site. If any of you have Dentons in your lines, I would love to hear from you!
There are also some down-loadable gedcom files for families other than Denton that I have in my at-home database, such as
Hunt, Moore, Plumlee, Cooper, Chastain, O'Dell, French, Shipman, Baker and Huff. All of these families intersect in some way with the Dentons, but have a great deal more information in the individual gedcoms than is on the database at the site.
There is a lot of other information on the site as well that you might find interesting, as well.
The address is:

I hope you find something of value!
Blessings!

Drennan and Graves
During a search of the book MARRIAGES OF WILSON CO., TN 1802-1850, I found the following entry:
John G. DRENNAN and Elvira GRAVES 12 JULY 1848.
This couple could be the parents of my great grandmother Martha Abigail DRENNON. I would appreciate any information, leads, or suggestions as to finding more information about them.
