Subject: Dedman History & Historical Society Home Grants

 Hello folks!
As stated above, my name is Paul Anthony Dedman and I'm from
Lebanon, Tn - son of Paul Edward Dedman @ Hickory Ridge Rd. I'm in the USMC
and after a great 14 years it seems that I've developed Epileptic seizures
cutting my career a few years short, so I'm coming back home. I'm renovating
the home place and have heard of Historical Grants being given to assist in
this depending on the age of the home. If anyone knows anything about this
PLEASE contact me at the above e-mail. My head is still spinning from finding
this out and they aren't wasting anytime processing me out due to the illness.
I also want to get some facts on our farm there as I do know that it was sold
to my grandfather, Troy Dedman, by a fellow that was received the land from
President Andrew Jackson, hence the road name, Hickory Ridge Road in memory of
"Old Hickory." I also know that a family by the name of Wynne must have owned
the land during the Revolutionary period as a military Colonel is buried there
on our farm. According to the dates on the weathered stone, he must have
fought in the Revolutionary War. I'm looking for more facts about this so if
your family was Wynne and (Col John Wynne and his wife Lucy)your looking as
well this would really be some neat info. Thanks for reading this if you've
made it this far. :o)
 Sincerely,
 Paul

Seeking information on the family of Bartley Dean Bowers, born about
1810 in Sumner County, TN; married Mary Mahafey, daughter of Robert
Mahafey, in 1823 in Wilson County, TN.
Bartlett Bowers' father was Jeremiah Bowers and was last 'seen' on the
Wilson County, TN Tax List of 1828. I suspect he died between 1828 and
1830 in Wilson County, TN. Would like to find a burial site.
Mary Mahaffey Bowers' father was Robert Mahafey and was last found on
the 1830 federal census in Wilson County I suspect he died sometime
between 1830-1840 in Wilson County.
If anyone has seen a cemetery which could have contained Bowers and /or
Mahaffey grave sites, I would greatly appreciate the information.
Also seeking information on the surname Hutchings.

Subject: [TNWILSON-L] Powell Families
Searching for ANY info on Wiley Powell and Mary Smith, who married in
Wilson Co. 22 July 1845. I am descended from Wiley and Polly through
their son, Henry J. Powell, b. about 1850.
It is thought Wiley Powell was b. 1797 in VA, but no proof of same.
Mary/Polly Smith b. 1818 in TN.
According to the 1850 Wilson Co. census, there are 3 older children
that obviously are from Wiley's previous marriage-
James A.,
Amanda M. &
Lunilda M.,(may be Larretta)
ages 20, 18, & 15.
Wiley and Mary had 4 children,
Martha/Mattie,
Henry J.,
John W. and
Wiley.
Any help with this family most appreciated.
Who are Wiley's
and Mary's parents?
Who was Wiley's first wife?
Thanks,
Sue

Subject: [TNWILSON-L] NEAL family
Hello,
I am seeking additional information on my 4th great grandfather, Zephaniah
NEAL, who removed to Wilson County Tennessee after he served in the
American Revolution.
I am working on applying for DAR status under him. Three of his sons,
Daniel,
John and
Jesse (my line)
moved to Indiana where they settled.

Zeph's daughters remained in WILSON Co -
Ann NEAL married Robert Goodman;
Elizabeth married Charles GOLSTON ( Zeph's will spells it GHOLSTON).
I would like to follow the daughters lines if possible as well. I am
interested in Census records, historical or otherwise on Zephaniah Neal
in Tennessee.

I also wonder how I might go about finding out which cemetery he is buried
in and if there is a possibilty if, once found, someone who lives in Wilson
might be willing to photograph his tombstone for me.
He died in Wilson Co,.in Sept 1845.

I do appreciate any input anyone may have!
Much thanks!

The Lebanon Library probably has the same book.

Thank you, cousin Florence. But my reasons for starting this list include
some selfish ones too. I'm fishing for links myself. And judging from
your message, I'm getting a bite. Are we cousins through the GEORGE line?

Thanks again for the kind words. I'm new at this mail list maintenance...
so y'all bear with me while I figure all this out. And let me know if you

RICKETTS
I am researching the following names in Wilson County
Olive Burton STROUD (1836-1864) and wife Margaret Elizabeth MOODY.
John M. STROUD (ca. 1808-ca. 1838-1840) and wife Mary JENNINGS.
Archibald STROUD (ca. 1782-ca. 1843) and wife Elizabeth.

Margaret Elizabeth MOODY (1838-1918) the daughter of:
John R. MOODY (1806-1875) and Cassander Florida ALLISON

Cassander Florida ALLISON (1812-1870) the daughter of:
William ALLISON (1773-1812) and wife Elizabeth

William ALLISON was in MD, VA, NC, and to Wilson Co., TN
with Patrick FLORIDA who married in 1792 Cassander ALLISON.
What is her relation (sister? cousin?) to William ALLISON.
Also is anyone researching the RICKETTS family in Wilson County?
RICKETTS in MD and NC were relatives of William ALLISON.
Are these RICKETTS in Wilson County descendants of them?
I will be glad to share and exchange information on
any of the above lines.

Subject: [TNWILSON-L] Jacob (Jake) JENNINGS

===== Forwarded by list manager =====
Dear Florence,
I show Jacob as a possible son of Joel JENNINGS and Cynthia GIBSON.
Joel was the son of Jacob JENNINGS and Beatrice CROSS.
Jacob was the son of Robert JENNINGS.
Robert had at least two, possibly three marriages.
At least his children Isaiah and Sally were children of a Miss Dancy
(daughter of John Dancy).
His wife when he wrote his will was Catherine, rumoured to be maiden name
SALLEE.

My interest in JENNINGS is my ancestor Mary JENNINGS b. ca. 1799 in KY or
TN; married 12 June 1828 to John M. STROUD.
Does anyone know her parents?
I believe she is most likely a granddaughter of Robert JENNINGS mentioned
above, who died in Madison Co., KY. Robert had six sons and one daughter.
Two sons, John and Isaiah remained in Madison County, had wills, and named
no daughters Mary. His son William died ca. 1841 in Wilson County, and
William's daughter Mary married James Porterfield. His son Jacob died in
1835 in Wilson County, and his daughter "Polly" married George D. Summers.
That leaves two sons, Thomas and Jesse, who were both deceased with children
(names unknown) when Robert wrote his will.

Thomas died in Wilson County ca. 1807. I believe that Thomas and Jesse are
the most likely possibilities for being the father of my Mary.
Does anyone have the names of the children of Thomas and Mary?

Dear Pat and all,
I am afraid I can be of no help to you Pat,but I am looking for information
on Hiram Eagan. Mary Ann Garner b.1825, Wilson County Tennessee, daughter
of Wiley Garner and Nelly Tracy, married Hiram Garner.
Family stories say that the Eagan family is one of the associated families
that migrated to Marion County, Illinois about 1831
Would love to have information on the Eagan family.
Mary Ann and Hiram were married in Illinois abt. 1845 and had at least
two children
William Eagan b. 1846 (Marion County, IL) and

Hello,
I don't know how many are in here. My name is Matthew Van Hook. I grew up
in Wilson County, TN until my sophomore year in High School. I went to
Byars-Dowdy Elementary. My dad pastored Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
His name is Larry Van Hook.
I lived near the airport when I was young. I went to Tucker's Cross Roads
for junior high. Bits and pieces I know
I'm interested in Joel Newman Van Hook, my gggrandfather who fought in the
Civil War, or any other Van Hook.
I'm researching
Bairds, Rices, Donnells, Sherrills, Reeds, Grishams,
Hickmans, Tuckers, Welches, Grindstaff, Granstaff.
In other counties which overlap: Smith/DeKalb, Winfree and Denney.
Cousin families include:
Ligon, Laine, Dies, Tuggle, Graham, Harris, Bryan,
Johnson, Murray, Hagan, Sanders, and Wynne.

Hey folks. Just thought I'd mention that TNWILSON-L already has over 100
subscribers (111 to be exact). As of 3:30 p.m. Tennessee Standard Time
today, there are 67 using the mail mode and 34 getting the digest mode.
Wow! I can't believe the response. In just one day, this list has put me
in contact with two distant cousins, and dozens of potential cousins.
Those are pretty good numbers.

I said that to say this: If you post something to the list, but don't get a
response right away, just hang tight. By my calculations, that's
approximately 220 eyes looking at each post, at least briefly, and
eventually two or more of those will see something that interests them.

Good luck. And if you have any suggestions or criticism, be sure to send
them to me at greg.tomerlin@nashvillecom

Greg -
Who could criticize that kind of success?!! I didn't think I needed
another Discussion List but couldn't resist one for Wilson County.
I have lots of history in Wilson County with my Hancock and Avery lines and
numerous related families.
My gg grandfather John Hancock and wife Jane Skeen had a son Samuel who
married Anna Avery, daughter of George Avery and Elizabeth Allen.
Samuel and Anna became my g grandparents and George and Elizabeth my gg
grandparents.
The Hancocks (some of them) moved on to Indiana about 1820.
The Averys remained in Wilson County.
I'd like to invite all 111 subscribers to visit my Home Page at
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/6866/welcome.html
ARVIL HANCOCK'S HOME PAGE
Bios for the above ancestors are included there.
In 1993 I published our family history
THE HANCOCK FAMILY OF ENGLAND AND AMERICA.
The Lebanon Library has a copy as do many other libraries around the
country.

I'd be glad to hear from anyone with connections. I'm happy to exchange
information and help others look for their ancestors.

The Wilson County surname that I am researching is LASATER.
My g.grandfather, Lafayette Taylor LASATER was born in the Norene area in
1848.
His father was Cannon Luther LASATER and his father was Hardy LASATER.
Greg and I have already spoke about this, but if anyone else has any
information,I would appreciate hearing it.

On a different subject, does anyone know where there is a cemetery in
Wilson County called Smith Springs Cemetery, supposedly off of Lebanon Road
somewhere? Thanks.

His wife when he wrote his will was Catherine, rumored to be maiden
name SALLEE.
My interest in JENNINGS is my ancestor Mary JENNINGS b. ca. 1799 in
KY or TN married 12 June 1828 to John M. STROUD.
Do you know her parents?
I believe she is most likely a granddaughter of Robert JENNINGS
mentioned above, who died in Madison Co., KY.
Robert had six sons and one daughter.
Two sons, John and Isaiah remained in Madison County, had wills,
and named no daughters Mary.
His son William died ca. 1841 in Wilson County, and William's daughter
Mary married James Porterfield.
His son Jacob died in 1835 in Wilson County, and his daughter "Polly"
married George D. Summers.
That leaves two sons, Thomas and Jesse, who were both deceased with
children (names unknown) when Robert wrote his will.
Thomas died in Wilson County ca. 1807. I believe that Thomas and
Jesse are the most likely possibilities for being the father of my Mary.
Do you have the names of the children of Thomas and Mary?

Mike Clemmons,
You said that you are a descendant of Samuel Thompson Clemmons. John
and Aless Elizabeth (Benson) Coggins daughter, Martha was Samuel's
wife. I am a descendant of Martha's brother Jeremiah. Do you have
any additional information on these families?
We are really stuck on our John Cooper, who married Elizabeth Coggin
(Jeremiah's daughter.) They were in Wilson Co, TN for a while.

Hello, the Louisa Corley mentioned in this post is the daughter of AUSTIN
CORLEY and his first wife, name unknown. Austin CORLEY was a Revolutinary
War soldier from Hanover Co., VA and his pension and his brother William
Corley's pensions tell a great deal about the families.
They moved to Wilson Co., about 1810-1 William lived to be nearly 100 years
old (he was still alive in 1850) and maybe actually made it to 100.
I have information on both these families and some connected ones.
Be glad to share.

The Wilson County surname that I am researching is LASATER. My
g.grandfather, Lafayette Taylor LASATER was born in the Norene area in 1848.
His father was Cannon Luther LASATER and his father was Hardy LASATER. Greg
and I have already spoke about this, but if anyone else has any information,
I would appreciate hearing it.

On a different subject, does anyone know where there is a cemetery in Wilson
County called Smith Springs Cemetery, supposedly off of Lebanon Road
somewhere? Thanks.

joined the 4th Regiment, Co B, of the Tennessee Cavalry during the

became a successful merchant in Wilson County. His daughter Selena Bell

Subject: [TNWILSON-L] LANE, LAIN Family
I am searching for information on the LANE family in Wilson County. According
to records Harvey L. LAIN m. Belzey C HAGAR/HAGER in Wilson County on 4 Sept.
1843. The 1860 Wilson County Census #189-460 contains information on H.L.
LANE and Caroline, both age 36, with 7 children. These are my gg-grandparents,
but this is as far back as I can go. I have always known of them as Harvey
Shelton LANE and Belle (Belzey) Caroline.
Their children were:
Mary Jane,
Robert Turner,
Rufus Monroe,
Ransom M.,
Zeb Beard,
Elizabeth Paralee,
George
Lutcher,
Fannie F.,
Harvey Brandon, and
Johnson.
George Lutcher LANE m. Mary Emma Dow SULLIVAN on 14 Nov 1877 in Wilson
County. These were my g-grandparents. Sometime, possibly in the 1880s,
Harvey and Belle and apparently most of their descendants, moved to
Sumner Co., TN.
I would appreciate any information anyone could give me on the LANES,
HAGERS, and SULLIVANS.
Will be willing to share any information that I have. -
