I would be grateful for information on FLORINDA FRANCES ROARK, believed born Mar. 6, 1827, m. John Overton GOAD Oct. 7, 1855. She is the mother of Elizabeth Susan GOAD, b. Feb. 14, 1858, and daughter of William ROARK and Elizabeth  MEADOR.
John Goad was born in Macon Co., TN--unsure of Florinda's birthplace, but associated with Smith Co., TN.
I am particularly interested in learning about William Roark and  his background.

Hi Ron,
My GxGF was Hardy Boze who came to Smith Co., c1805. He resided on the Caney Fork River across from the mouth of Bluff Creek. Hardy's grave (d. 1850) is on the banks of Caney Fork River at the head of PIPER'S Island.
According to "Smith Co. History" book's, article by Onez Stallings, there were Piper's who married into later generations of the Boze family. The information given is:
1. Allen Piper, b. 8 May 1803 - d. 24 Jun 1889 m. Rebecca Hall
2. Henry Piper, b. 24 Jul 1845 m. Martha Jane Ligon
3. Exum Allen Piper, b. 16 Aug 1871 m. Mary McGee, d/o Burrell McGee and Ann BOZE.
Good Luck!

Subject: Archive retrieval of Digests..sorry

Hi to the list
And sorry for all the messages that went to the list and should have gone to the "-request" address....
I was trying to retrieve the Digests #1 thru 4, since I joined too late to get those...

And I have a couple of links to share:
to search the HUGE Roots-L database for postings on your surnames...
http://searches.rootsweb.com/roots-l.search.html

And the link for the interactive Rootsweb Mailing list search is:
https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/listindexes/
(This link will let you search the archives for this or any other mailing list that Rootsweb hosts.... put TNSMITH as the list name for this list)

Again, sorry for the mis-sent posts.......

Charles,
You are right, that is the address to send all replies or postings to in order for them to get to the rest of us......
Even tho I was not listed yet on your "current list of subscribers", I'm here, and will be glad to help out anyway I can...
If everybody hasn't listed their surnames yet, I would like to know who's who, since I just joined.....and even if you have listed them....I missed the first four Digests since #5 is the first one I got, so if anybody else is subscribed in Digest mode, and can email me those, email me privately at:

and let me know, first, please....
Let's all pitch in and give Charles a 'helping hand', folks...
.I, for one, really appreciate him taking the list on, as I have a lot of Smith County ancestry to trace.
Chasing Green MULLINS, Isaac LYNCH, Orin LYNCH, Nancy Jane McKINNEY, William "Bill" McKINNEY, and Janie JOHNSON NAPIER MULLINS all over the place in Smith County, Carthage, Elmwood, Rome, etc.

Lucy,
We share some of the same common ancestors-though probably aren't directly related.
I am connected to the Dempsey Braswell (born about l849-l85l and s/o Nathan Braswell and Mahala? ).
Dempseny Braswell married Paralee Allen Sept 22, l872 in DeKalb Co, TN.She was d/o Andrew  Allen and Lydia Jane Swaner and gd/o Hezekiah Allen (my direct ancestor and also the Turner's who belong to this list).
Am definitely interested in learning more about his family. It is the ALLEN FAMILY that I am  connected to here.

You also mention the Agee family. Again, this is a collateral line of  mine.
William M.L. AGEE married Elizabeth Jane PAGE May l8, l879.
I  have nothing on this family but would like to have more if you know any  more about it.
Elizabeth Jane Page was d/o Allen Page and Lucinda C. Hayes and gd/o Jacob Page Jr. and Jane Allen and gt gd/of Hezekiah Allen (same as above).
Here I am PAGE and an ALLEN descendant.
Jacob Page Jr. was a brother to my Barnabas Page who married Mary Allen.
That is the only common names that I see. Hope this helps.

Hello,
I'm new to the list so here's my call for help.
Looking for info on the McGee family. I'm descended from Timothy William McGee and his wife Celinda Henryetta Garner through their son Lambert Solomon McGee.
Does anyone have info on the origin of this family?
I remember Lambert always stating that we were Scots-Irish not Irish so I assume that the family hadn't been here long enough to forget the history of where they came from.
In help welcome and will gladly share what I know.

Alice, I have some MALONE'S who married into my LAWRENCE FAMILY.
I am actually researching the Lawrence family. I have Mary Lawrence born May 27, 1832 Smith Co, TN (d/o Thomas Lawrence and Susannah Pafford--my ancesotrs) who married James M. Malone May 3, l853 DeKalb Co, TN. He was born Feb 20, l831 Tn and died in l9ll buried at Pisgah Cemetery. Do you have any more on this family? He was s/o Thomas Malone and Louisa McIntire of Smith Co, TN.
I am also searching for info on Elizabeth Atnip (I am an Atnip descendant) who was married to Bethel Malone. Elizabeth would have been born in the l880's probably DeKalb Co, TN.
If you recognize any of these, would like to hear from you.

Subject: Re: [TNSMITH-L] Surnames--MALONE

I'm also searching for MALONE of Smith Co.
Mahala MALONE, born 24 Oct 1814, TN; married c1828 to Josiah WHITLEY, b. 14 Mar 1809, Edgecombe Co., NC.
Mahala died 7 Nov 1891, and is buried in the Alexandria Cemetery, DeKalb Co., TN. Her tombstone reads: Mahala Malone, wife of J. S. Whitley, and she's buried in the FOUTCH family plot. (Mahala's daughter Elizabeth Whitley, b. 1837 - married John C. Fouch (Foutch) of DeKalb Co. ) Mahala resided in or near Gordonsville.
A Smith Co., TN deed (Deed Book N, p. 13-14) shows a tract of land deeded from JAMES MALONE to JOSIAH WHITLEY on 30 November 1835. I tend to think James Malone would have been the father of Mahala Malone Whitley.
This is the extent of my Malone family data. If anyone has any further information, I would appreciate help on Mahala's parents or siblings.
