lookups, I will be happy to assist.
I think your idea of exchanging information with your students is terrific.
I teach genealogy at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL, and I am going

Do you have anyone searching the BARGER family in Henderson and Carroll Counties

From:[email protected] (JOY IVDRSEN)
Joy Ward Itersen ([email protected] )
I am trying to find more information on my gggrandfather Eli WARD, b.
13 February 1831 in TN. Some family legends have him being born in N.C. and
brought to Scott Co. TN by his mother RACHEL. Rachel's maiden name is WARD
and Ali's father was Henry LOVEDAY from Ashe Co. N.C, Rachel was married
to Eartin KENNEDY, John TACKETT, William THOMPSON, and W.H. DAVIS. There
is no evidence of whether she was married to Henry or not.
Eli WARD was married several times and had approximately 23 children. I am the descendant of his first wife Elizabeth WEBB, b. 1829 and d. 1880-1886 in Anderson Co. TN. Eli was a minister of the gospel in Anderson and Campbell Co. My maiden name is Ward and it is very important to me to track this particular line. Any information on Eli WARD or Elizabeth WEBB would be greatly appreciated.
Other family members in Anderson Co. TN:
I am a descendant of
Melvina TUCKER, b. 12 May 1834, m. to Phillip SEIBER b. 1833 in Anderson
Co.; John DIGGS b. 1819 and d. in Andersonville Prison 25 Jun 1864, and his
wife Rachel WALKER b. 1820 and d. 8 Apr 1897 in Oliver Springs. I would like
to share what I have as well. I have no information on the parents of Melvina
TUCKER, John DIGGS, Elizabeth WEBB or Rachel WALKER. If you know anything
about them I would like to hear from you.
Steven ELSWICK b: ca: 1774 and Charity NESTER b: ca 1783 married 2 Jun 1795 come from the Anderson Co. area as well. I believe that Steven's father was Jonathan ELSWICK and Charity's father was Frederick NESTOR.
David MAYBERRY b: ca: 1799 and Nancy STROUD b: ca 1799 are from TN but I don't know what area.
I have lots of family in TN and would love to share.

Subj: Nashville Date: 97-10-07
From: [email protected]
Dear Nancy,
... I thought you might know the answer to a question that has puzzled
my family since the Civil War. My g-g-g grandfather fought for the South,
was discharged in Tupelo, MS, because he was sick, and too old, and was taken
to Nashville where he died and is supposed to be buried. I have written letters
several years ago while I was living in Arkansas to a couple of libraries
in Nashville, and they said they could find no record of him in the Civil
War Veteran's burial lists they searched. He actually would have been buried
as a civilian, so which cemetery is that old and might have records that
far back? His entire family was from Hickman County, Tennessee, although
he had moved to Arkansas in 1852.
Thanks,

Dear Gene,
Have you done the Soundex Search for Tennessee for the year 1900 ?
If you have not, the Soundex Code for the name Free is < F600>
Get to an LDS Family History Center near you somewhere and
ask a staff member to help you order this film. There is a Catalogue
for the Soundex Films there, and this coded name will be somewhere
in one of the films. It will list all the Free's in Tenn. at the time
of that Fed. Census. The people at the FHC will help you get started
searching the film. Pay special attention to any Free name you should
find in (Sevierville) Sevier Co. or any of the counties around that
county. Any map will tell you all the County Names. It takes about
10 days for the films to come in from Salt Lake. The films cost $3.25
for use for about 60 days.
This should lead you to your Jackson FREE or to his parents
or other relatives. If there is no success with this year's Soundex,
then go to the 1910 Soundex also. If I can help you further on the
even older family lines, please e-Mail me.
Best of luck...Diane G.

His uncle, Wyatt and wife Irene ran a plantation of cotton and tobacco fields near the end of the turn of the century. Wyatt JACKSON had four sons. these are my dad's first cousins. Wyatt JACKSON Jr. recently died at the approx. age of 72 yrs. They owned property known as "Old Sycamore", now a beautiful golf course and deveolpement for famous country singing stars.
There is a lot of heritage there. I am from Rock Island, Ill.
Minnie Pearl was a best freind to my dads 'Aunt Cappy' as they called her. She died several years ago. I took my first steps at her home about 41 years ago.

Where should I go in Blount County to find records pertaining to JOHN "(old
John) McCAIN who lived there in the 1700s?
I can't find the name of the county seat on the net or the address of a county
courthouse or historical society.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also is your newsletter still in print?
And are any back issues available which might pertain to my McCAIN
relatives?

(Quinlin & Roxie Hensley)
Hi, I am Roxie Briggs Hensley of Altus OK.
I am researching RAY's from Lawrence County and HAMILTONS from Carroll County,
TN.
I have a home page dedicated to my family genealogy. It contains stories,
pictures, obituaries, and a searchable database. I enjoy visiting relatives.
I invite you to come and stay as long as you wish. I will never get tired
of your visit.
My site is dedicated to all of the families that I am researching, therefore
I am not trying to take anything away from any of the other sites on the
web.
I add to the site as often as I can so there is a chance that you will find
something new each time you visit.
I have a page to list researchers and their e-mail addresses and I want to
link to all homepages of my internet "cousins" in hopes that our research
will become easier as time goes on. This site is free to all and is not a
commercial site. The information will be freely shared with all who ask.
I don't put anyone's name or e-mail address on this page without
permission.
I would like a link on your page. I will be putting a link to your site on
my link page.
Thank you. I hope you will visit soon and please sign my guestbook.
Sincerely,
Roxie Briggs Hensley

I have been searching the Web for info on the Weakley family and found
your page.
I am a decendant of the Weakley family of Madison County, VA.
My grandfather was Kelly Buster Weakley(born abt. 1911) and married
Georgia Ellen Seymour (born May 1914).
My great-grandfather was Hubert Weakley(born abt. 1870?) who married
Neva ????. I haven't had much luck researching this family, since most all
of the older Weakley relatives are dead.
Does the Weakley family that is currently in TN have ancestors from VA or
PA?
I also cannot find the book on the Weakley family by Samuel Weakley.
I understand that this is not really a published book, but a handwritten
manuscript.
Any information you can give me for Weakleys in VA would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Cynthia Weakley Higgins

SIMMONS, WALKER, HARVEY, ERVING:
Subj: Queries Date: 97-10-31
From: [email protected]
(email updated 15 Feb 1999)
I am searching for Thomas SIMMONS and his wife Mary Ann WALKER.
They appear in the 1820 Census of Wayne County Tennessee. They have seven
children. Three we know of are:
Peter Simmons,
Wiley Simmons, and
Lewis Simmons.
They were born in North Carolina in the 1800's in or around Bertie County.
The children came to Tennessee while still young.
We do not know where Thomas SIMMONS is before 1820 as he does not appear
in any Census of Tennessee or North Carolina in the counties listed. They
may be in surrounding counties.
Thomas SIMMONS was born about 1765 in Bertie County North Carolina. Was married
there and moved to Tennessee. The children grew up in Tennessee and married
in Wayne county.
Peter SIMMONS married a Cynthia HARVEY.
Cynthia's Father was Thomas G. HARVEY from Georgia.
Lewis SIMMONS and Wiley SIMMONS married sisters Sarah Ann ERVING and Mary
Ann ERVING.
Their parents were Hezekiah ERVING and Polly SIMMONS. They were born in North
Carolina also. They came to Wayne county Tennessee where they were married
about 1825 to 1831.
In 1832 Wiley and Lewis SIMMONS moved to Cape Giradeau Missouri.
Thomas stayed in Wayne County Tennessee untill about 1843, when Peter and
Thomas moved to Johnson County Illinois.
Wiley and Peter Simmons moved to Johnson County Illinois in 1836.
Any help would be appreciated.
