Hello,
Just discovered that Smith County had finally logged on to RootsWeb.
Re: Isaac Lynch m. Millie..had issue Susan and Iron. Susan married Harrison Lee Douglas first. He went on to marry two more times. His last marriage was to Susan Evelyn Fisher Clark, who was my grandmother. I believe Susan Lynch Douglas is buried with Harrison Lee Douglas near Popes Hill, Smith Co., TN.

There is another family of Lynches that migrated to Crittenden Co., KY along with many other families, Clarks, Paris's, Hunts, Congers, to name just a few.
I have some iinformation on these families. Let me know what you need.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU
Traced my LINCH/LYNCH family back to Smith Co, TN in 1841 and I think to 1810 but still have questions any trying to tie LYNCH families together.

UNUSUAL LYNCH NAMES IN SMITH CO
Has anyone seen the name Dicy Lynch, born before 1830 (someone told me Dicy may be nickname for Diana ?)
Boar Lynch, born before 1800
Geraldas Lynch, born before 1800
Lawerance Lynch, born before 1800

Was there a Poll Tax in TN in early 1800's ?
Was there a Poll Tax in ILL in 1850 ?

Other Lynch names in Smith Co in early 1800's
William SR and Sophia
John
William JR
Jessie
David
George L.
Joseph J.
Issac (Genny1's ancestor)
Thomas
I think William, Sophia & John went to Jefferson Co, ILL in the 1820's

I am trying to hire a researcher in Nashville to go thru the old Smith Co records, Court, Probate and deeds. Does anyone know of a reasonable and good researcher there?

Thanks for any info or help.

This is also posted on Smith Co, TN but I was so excited, thought I would get you to check your records about the Milly. It seems as if this Milly that joined the church in Mar, 1810 with John joining in Jun 1810, they are probably husband and wife. What do you think about this msg?

Hi Gene,
The Lynch family I'm familiar with was John Linch/Lynch who married Milly Stallings by 1803, in Edgecombe Co., NC. Milly was the sister of my Temperance Stallings Whitley, wife of Exum Whitley. The Stallings sisters were born in Edgecombe Co., NC, and may have moved with their husbands and children to Smith Co., TN about 1812. John & Milly Lynch settled on Hogun's Creek, Smith Co., TN. I've not attempted to trace their descendants, though, so I'm not sure whether this is your family. The only Lynch records I have would have involved a John or William Lynch - none of the other names you mentioned mean anything to me.

I don't have anything on your names in particular, but there could possibly be a connection as my Isaac Lynch was said to have the middle name of Wesley or Westley......
I have posted your note, along with some others on my Lynch web page at:
https://sites.rootsweb.com/~tngenny1/lynch.html
Maybe you will get some responses that way, that will be of help.....
I know so little on my Isaac Lynch, but have a little posted on the Lynch page....

Hi Harrell,
Do you know ANYTHING else about either of the Isaac Lynch's? As to their dates of birth, death, marriage, children, etc.......
Or do you have any more details on James Lynch, the father of one Isaac?
Or on Jessie W., the father of the other one?
I will have to dig around and see what else I can find on my Isaac....and send you his children, etc....
I think I have him born around 1808 in NC and his wife as "Milly or Nellie Drusille" .

One of my Isaac Lynch's son's John LYNCH went to Arkansas with his brother in law, John McKinney....John Lynch had married Liza (Elizabeth) McKinney....she died and then he married Margaret LEE...think they were still in Smith County when that happened.....
One of Isaac Lynch's son's, Orin (shown as Iron/Oran in the 1850 census, Smith County TN as age 11/12 of a year) was a Methodist "Lay" Minister.....which I think means he was not ordained.....but Rev. Orin also married a McKinney...Nancy Jane, --they are my ancestors....then she died and he then married her sister Martha McKinney.

Anyway, Rev. Orin Lynch "died in the pulpit while preaching the funeral of a friend at Chestnut Mound" in 1929....there was a big write-up about his death in the Smith County newspaper, saying "Dr. Scattergood is dead...."; he was the Chairman Pro-Tem of the County Court in Smith County TN at time of his death...

From memory, not looking at notes which are stacked mile-high around here...I think my Isaac Lynch died about 1880 and is buried on "the old Thomas farm" in Smith County.....a lot of the info I have was from my maiden aunt Daisy Lynch who was a retired Smith County school teacher.

I am sending Gene Lynch a copy and maybe together we can all figure out something on our Lynch lines....we are probably all cousins, and just can't get it connected yet!

Thanks once again, Harrell.....I will post your message on my Lynch web page.....if you have not already looked at it, I have all of the Lynch census info from 1850 in TN posted on the page, with a note by Isaac, that he is mine......There are some from Claiborne County Tn on there....

I have long suspected that since there are several who indicated they were born in NC, they are probably related to Isaac, but no way to prove it at this time....I had been asked if my Isaac moved to KY; also, so many of the Lynch family went to Arkansas and points west, and it's hard to track them..
Sending a copy to Gene Lynch, too.....
Thanks and I will keep an eye out for yours as I go along....Gene has been kind enough to keep an eye out for my Isaac, too...

Thats all that I have for the Lynch family.
Richie Hensley Lynch is the sister to my wifes grandfather Robert Hensley.
I do know that she is still alive and lives in Lebanon, Wilson Co. TN. I do not know her husbands name or if he is still alive as I have never met her and the families have not stayed in close contact. At Christmas I will ask Roberts children if they know anything.
I am newly married to the Hensley family and am the only one with the geneology bug.
Hopefully at Christmas when I present to them what I have found they will be more willing to dig up old memories.

I have to say that joining this list has been the quickest way to get info. Because of a post I sent out yesterday morning I have gone from knowing nothing of Roberts wifes family to well documented info all the way back to 1500's in England. Have info now all the way to my wifes 12th GreatGrandfather. Theres no telling what we can find through this mailing list.
Good luck and if I find anything I'll pass it along.

<< Did Isaac Lynch leave Smith County and move to KY around 1870? I am looking for Fredericks who lived in Smith County in 1850 and 1860. Around 1865 William Frederick died and his wife, Alcey (Foust) married P. H. Scott. I believe he was also from Smith County. In following this family - the Frederick children in particular - I believe I remember seeing the family of Isaac Lynch listed in the Todd County KY census - 1880 or 1900. Also James B. Frederick married Emma Lynch in 1887. She was his second wife. When I get a chance I will check out those census records again and let you know more.
Would you possibly have any info about any Fredericks there?
Nell >>

Hi Nell and thanks for your note.
I don't know when or where my Isaac Lynch died, but he was in Smith County TN 1850 census, with Orin Lynch 11/12 years of age..(this is my Rev. Orin Lynch). There is, of course, the possiblity that Isaac moved to KY, (or even to Missouri or Arkansas, as one of his sons went there). And I too have found record of Isaac Lynch in KY, however, there were TONS of them in a book on the Lynch family that I found at the State Library & Archives in Nashville.

I don't have anything on Fredericks, but will be glad to keep an eye out...
thanks again,

Located some old church records for Hogans Creek Baptist Church, about 3 miles south of Carthage. Only Linchs are listed, John, Milly and Sophia.
Have corresponded with you before but for your info, my line is:
Joseph J. Lynch, b ca 1800 in TN. was in Smith Co in 1820's till he died in 1841. His father, I think, was John Linch, b 1777 in NC, who left Smith Co in the late 1820's and went to Jefferson Co, ILL (he was there in 1850).
I will forward the msg from the person with the records.

Thanks again for your help. GENE Lynch >

Gene,
We have church records for 1806 when the church was organized to 1821. They then pick back up at around the early 1900's although there are records of members who joined in the 1880's. The time period you are looking for is missing.
I did find a John Linch who joined the church and was baptized on the First Saturday June 1810. Would this be one of your ancestors? I can email you a copy of these pages as I have them scanned. Let me know.

Doug: Thanks for posting the listing of Tennessee LYNCH families from the 1850 census. This one is mine:
Isaac LYNCH 43 NC Sm-204-451 (Smith)
Nelly 27 TN
Manerva J. 12
David J. 9
Wm F. 7
John G. 5
Elizabeth 3
Oran 11/12 (Rev. Orin Lynch, born 1849, married
1) Nancy Jane McKinney,
2) Martha McKinney
in Smith County, TN.  They were both daughters of William (Bill) McKinney and Mary Lynch.
Rev. Orin was a Methodist 'Lay Minister' and died while preaching the funeral of a friend in Chestnut Mound, Smith County, TN in 1929.)

If anyone can tie Isaac, age 43, born in NC, in with any of the others on the list, I would like to hear from them. There are a couple of good prospects  on the census list to be brothers of Isaac, going by age and born in NC, but I don't have another blessed thing on Isaac that I can tie in with any other Lynch family at this point; needless to say, ANY help is appreciated.

Subject: TN, ILL and TX Lynchs      Date: Fri, 20 Feb 1998
Looking for info on the following:
LYNCH, James Harvey, born 1830 in TN (do not know which county) moved to Texas (Cherokee, Anderson Co) in 1850, to Bowie Co, TX in 1861. Susposedly, his parents died in late 1830's and he was taken in by an old couple with a large slave farm near Knoxville. His brother and sister were taken by someone else.
LYNCH, Joseph, born 1790 and second marriage to Amanda HOSKINS, born 1800.
May be father of James Harvey, Andrew P and Amanda Jane. Joseph died ca 1838,
Amanda ca 1839
LYNCH, Andrew P., born 1837 in TN, on 1850 Jefferson Co, ILL census. Brother of James Harvey Lynch. Maried Mary Mancee in 1862, had two children, William Logan, born 1863, Lycurgus Cassender, born 1864. Andrew died 1864 (no will).Lycurgus married Mary Ford and Nevada Darnell -- All in Jefferson Co, ILL
LYNCH, Amanda Jane, born 1837 in TN, on 1850 Jefferson Co, ILL census. Sister of James Harvey Lynch. Married James Mancee, 2nd marriage to Hampton Wooldridge and moved to Benton Co, Ark around 1870.
LYNCH, John, born 1777 in NC, shown on the 1850 Jefferson Co, ILL census in same household as Andrew and Amanda Jane Lynch and his wife, Elizabeth, born 1806 in NC. John was probably Grandfather to James Harvey, Andrew P and Amanda Jane. He died in Jefferson Co, ILL in 1851, no will.
LYNCH, Green H. W. and Manuduke B., on 1850 Jefferson Co, ILL census. maybe be kin to John Lynch.
Any info or leads will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: LYNCH and PRATT
William Bryan LYNCH and Fannie PRATT were in Tennessee on Feb. 13, 1875 when their daughter Julia was born. Have no idea where in Tennessee. Julia married Oscar Boulton est 1895 in Tennessee. Julia's son remembers her beautiful red hair and thought at least one of her parents were Irish. Julia died May 4, 1952 in Springfield, Tennessee. I am trying to write a very amateur book of family history for my grandchildren and it would be nice to fill this side out some.

After 2 yrs, ran across guardainship papers on my GGF in Smith Co, TN in 1839 but it brought in another name that I know we have talked about in one of our msg. have searched and cannot find it.
Dicy LINCH born probably in the 1820 in TN, maybe Smith Co.
not sure if Dicey is male or female?

The papers showed that a John W. ESTES was appointed guardian of the children of Joseph LINCH in 1839. The children were Dicey, James, Andrew and Amanda. James was my GGF, found Andrew and Amanda in Jefferson Co, ILL in 1850 with John Lynch, 73, born in NC. Dicey unknown??
Anyone have a Dicey?
Anyone connected to the ESTES family in TN and ILL?
Anyone connected to the PAYNE family in TN and ILL?

Also found that in 1837, the following signed a petition about the Smith and Cannon Co boundaries.
David LINCH
G. L. Lynch (probably George or Gerald)
Issac Lynch (Genny1's ancestor)
Jack Lynch
Joseph Lynch (my ancestor)
Are these families connected?

Fron 1830 Smith Co census, there is
David LINCH, 032
Gerald LINCH, 118
Joseph J. LINCH, 045
Jessie Linck, 117
Lawerance Linck, 118

1840 Smith co
J. Lynch, 221
Mary Lynch, 221
Issac LINCH, 283
George L. Lynch, 258

Hired a researcher to search Smith Co, TN for will, estate papers, deeds, etc. Anyone have any suggestions?
Also, planning to write the TN Masonic Lodge, anyone have address?
Thanks for any info or suggestions

Hello Nancy,

I found your web page through Rootsweb. I am also researching the LYNCH surname in Tennessee. Mine are from Memphis (Shelby Co.), so we are probably not related, but I thought I would get it shot. My g-g-grandmother, Johanna Lynch was born in Ireland in 1840. She immigrated to the US in 1855. Johanna LYNCH married Patrick BARRON (also from Ireland) on 26 May 1858. Johanna and Patrick had five children; Josephine, Lillie, Mary, Nellie, and Katie BARRON. The BARRON's lived on Peyton Avenue, and later on Mill St. in Memphis, TN.

Roy sent me a copy last year. You can reach him at:

The book is "Lynch and Related Families of Claiborne Co, TN"

Starts with John Lynch SR b about 1753 in SC, Laurens Co who came to Claiborne about 1800. Lived there until 1828, then to Morgan Co, ILL then to Platte Co, MO.

John married Jane Allison/Ellison. Names include Rispah (dau m Martain Sharp). Joseph R, Arron, Jeremiah, William, and many others.

His research appears well documented.

(I got) a lot of info, deeds, guardain ship records, census and alot of other info. ...
In my files somewhere, I have a query about George Washington Lynch. Will try to find it and send it to you.
Joined the Smith Co genealogy several months back, have not got their newsletter yet, but it is supposed to have my query in it.
Have looked thru the LDS records but have not yet found copies of smith co records. The lady at LDS said she would search for me, but has not called me back.
Ordered the Smith Co, TN, 1820 census and have it permanently at our LDS center.

I do notice that all the Linch/Lynchs in Smith Co in 1820 were 26 to 45, with 2 in Williams household in that age.

I have a copy of every deed that John and Joseph had in Smith Co, unfortunately no genalogy info in them. Ordered copys of some others for the Linchs 1820-27.

Please keep the suggestions comming. I keep thinking there is something I have overlooked.

PS. I think I have located my John Lynch in Edgecombe Co, NC, where he married Milly Stallings. The Stallings, joined the Hogans Creek Baptist Church in 1806 by letter and John/Milly joined in 1810. Sophia Linch joined in 1808 by letter Therefore, Sophia, and Stallings must have been member in Edgecombe co, NC. Searching for church records there now.

Looked over some LDS IGI records for TN today and ran accross the following:
Menervia Jane Lynch, b 1837, daughter of William Lynch and Melia Perkins. Thought the name was very similiar to that dau shown on Issac's 1850 census. Any thoughts?

Also, ordered a bunch of County records for smith co today thru the LDS. Got the Chancery Court records for 1808 to 1847, Probate 1803-96, Deed Index 1801-1934, marriages, 1838-1881, DAR collection of Smith Co records and some other stuff. There were a bunch of records you could order at $3 a film. Will order some more later.

Will let you know when they get here and if there is anything.

A lady called today about my query in the Smith Co GEn Magazine. She said she was sending me a bunch of stuff and also said there were 4 Lynch brothers that came to Smith from NC in early 1800. She would find her records and send to me. her ancestorw were George Washington Lynch (brother to Garry Lynch) ,also talked about a William Burr Lynch and his son, Issac (did not have dates). Said her family was from Sullivans Bend, close to Hogan's creek. Said Sally, Sophia and Mary were given land based on husbands service, Said David came to Smith in 1801, Partaenia born 1811 married Garry W. Lynch. She talked so fast, my notes ran together. Said she had some info on Boar Lynch. Looking forward to seeing what she sends. Told her I was only interested in Lynchs or Linchs in Smith Co 1800 to 1850.

Relooking at my notes, her GF was William Henderson, Buffalo Valley, TN, GGF Abram or Abharam, GGGF William Bur (brother of Garry W and George Washington).

Anything above connect to anything?

I've found my great grandmother, Epsy LYNCH in the 1850 Natchitoches Parish,

LA. Next to her family are two

other Lynch families which I assume are related:

John LYNCH age 34 born GA

Mary age 24 Born AL

Mary age 3 born LA

Epsy age 2 born LA

James LYNCH age 46? born SC

Nancy age 50? born GA

Martha age 27 born AL

Parmelia age 23 born AL

Maranda age 20 born AL

Louis LYNCH age 24 born AL

Rebecca age 23 born AL

Epsy LYNCH married Solomon CLAYTON in 1867 in Natchitoches Parish, LA.They

moved to Bell Co., TX where, apparently, he died around 1877. Epsy then

married Micajah Liles BEAIRD in 1878 in Bell Co., TX. They moved to Sabine

Co., LA where they are found in the 1880 census. Then back to TX living in

Trinity and Houston Cos. until Epsy died in 1894. Epsy's mother, Mary,

according to family tradition was 100% Indian, either Cherokee or Choctaw.

Do these families ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks,

Donna
