Nancy,

I don't know if I have any info that will help your husband's research but I have a Rachel Osment that married Robert Shannon on Aug. 21, 1811 in the family. The Shannon Family that is. Robert was the son of Robert (Robin) Shannon. Robin's father, Robert, is my ggggrandfather. I'm afraid I do not have any info on Rachel other than marriage date.

As for Lains. What names are you looking for. The Lains married into the Shannon family. William H. Lain son of Armstead Lain, Jr. is my gg-grandfather and I have info on the Lains. There are some contradictions in the family info but maybe I will have what you are looking for.

Lon,
I hope this is of some help to you.
I have a gg-great aunt, Angie Frances Lain, daughter of William H. Lain and Sarah Ann VanHook, born June 17, 1870, died September 1,1894, buried in Ozment Cem. on Murfreesboro Pike about 3 miles from Lebanon, TN.
I have her down as being married to a R.G.Ozment but do not have their children. This is probably your Angie and Rufus.
I have let my Lain file get a little disorganized and haven't had the time to delve into some of the names. I will keep Angie in mind and when I start on the Lains again maybe I will come across their children. I assume since they are buried in Lebanon that they did not go to Texas with her sister Julia Alice and husband John Haney Shannon.
If I can help you in any other way please let me know.
Joyce

Hi Nancy,
Here is a copy of an e-mail that I just sent to the Lane list and the Davidson Co, TN list.
I'm wondering if I should send it to the Wilson Co. List too?

I am interested in finding information about Owen LANE who is found on the 1820 Davidson Co, TN census.
Did he have children, Nancy Ann, b ca 1801, Denny, and Thomas? The Owen LANE on the 1820 Davidson Co, TN census was over 45 years of age. He had two sons 16-26, a daughter 10-16, a daughter 16-26, and a wifer over 45.
The daughter 16-26 could very well be my Nancy Ann Lane, b ca 1801 who married Alfred OZMENT in Davidson Co, TN on 18 Apr 1823.
A Denne Lane married Susannah McFaddin 1 March 1821 in Davidson.
A Thomas Lane married Rebecca McFaddin on 24 June 1819 in Davidson.
Also on the 1820 census is a Thomas LAIR or LAIN, age 26-45.

Another interesting note about Owen LANE. His revolutionary pension was applied for 17 Oct 1832 in Davidson Co, TN. He was aged 77 then, stated he was born in Caroline Co, MD, lived there and enlisted there and was on the Maryland line. Afterwards he moved to Guilford Co, NC and then moved to Davidson Co, TN. This is the same migration for my Ozment family! They went from somewhere in Maryland to Guilford Co, NC and then to Davidson Co, TN and then on to Wilson Co, TN!

Since I sent this query I noticed queries in the Caroline Co, MD page for Richard OZMENT by Dwight Ozment!
Could they be from the same place and migrated together?

Have you checked with Dwight on his line?
If you'd like me to, I can send a copy to the entire Ozment group.....then we will see what comes up....
I am also sending a copy to Bob Carver who has some info on Lanes, and to Heather Bowers who does a Lane newsletter, and also has a LANE homepage....

I am working on a page for our Ozment/Osment researchers, to list how everyone is descended.....if you would send me your line, I will be glad to post it.......look at the page I did for the Coggin Research Team at:

Yes, please send to the Ozment group. I have talked with Heather and have put my Lane page on her web site. I'm not sure if I have ever talked to Bob. And I don't believe I have talked to Dwight either although I think I have some of his information.

I have another bit of info. There has been some confusion about the parentage of Alfred. Most everyone has his father as John Ozment b. ca 1763 but I have not been able to verify that. I don't know if you have seen this letter below but I am including it because it is very interesting. They have Alfred as the son of James Ozment and Martha Arder (an Indian). It also mentions an Anderson Ozment further up the line that I have never seen anywhere else. Tell me what you think about this:

Old letter from Arthur Jolley, a descendant of Alfred and Nancy OZMENT, to Mrs. D. L. Artchinson. The letter was undated. A copy was sent to me by Rebecca DeArmond. Information in parentheses were put in by the person writing to Rebecca I think.

"Dear Cousin,
Here is the story I promised you. I will tell how the Ozments came to be here. They first lived in England about 1760. James Henry's father moved from England to France. James was 6 years old. He had a brother named Anderson who was 4 years old.
John (James?) Henry's father had a sister named Elizabeth (Ozment) who married a William Eddings. They had a son who was named William. They called him Billy (Eddings). (Therefore, Billy Eddings and James Henry Ozment were first cousins.) He was one year older than James. They moved to France when James was 22 years old. The Revolutionary War broke out. Lafayette, the French General came to America to help Washington, James (Ozment), Billy (Eddings), and William (?) came with him. When the war ended, the boys stayed in America.

Being educated well, the 3 became teachers in an Indian mission teaching Indians. Billy (Eddings) married a Chief (Keoto) daughter, named White Fawn or Elizabeth. Chief Keoto had a brother who had a daughter named Martha Arder. James (Ozment) married her.

Billy and Elizabeth (Eddings) had 13 girls. James and Martha had 4 sons and 1 girl. The sons were James, Alfred, John L. and Richard. The girls name was Lucille.

James L. m. Elizabeth Eddings (probably the daughter of Billy & Elizabeth, therefore his first cousin)
Alfred m. Nancy Lane
John L. m. Dora (?) Ann Frazier
Richard married Rebecca Eddings (first cousin?)
Martha (Lucille?) married Ben Franklin
In 1811 the Ozments and Eddigns moved from NC to McCoon Co, TN. James Jr. fought in the war of 1812 under Andrew Jackson.

In 1839, Alfred and James Jr. & Martha moved to Ozment Bluff, Ark.

John L. Ozment and the Fraziers moved to northern Miss. Later moved to Arkansas with the other Ozments about 1845. About 1850 he went to Texas to join his son, John Jasper Ozment who was there with some of John L's other children, 8 girls and 6 boys. His son, James G. had 14 girls and 2 boys.

John L. had 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. John Jasper Ozment was one of the boys."

Hi group,
I did a lot of researching on OZMENT and LANE today.
I feel that Owen LANE found on the 1820 census of Davidson Co, TN with a daughter 16-26, might be the elusive father of my Nancy Ann LANE, b ca 1801, NC, who married Alfred OZMENT in 1823 in Davidson Co, TN. I thought I would share so that maybe you could give me some ideas.

1810 Guilford Co, NC census:
Page 171
Jonathan LANE 1 male 26-45, 4 males<10, 1 female 26-45

Samuel OZMENT 1 male 45+, 1 male 26-45, 2 males 16-26, 1 male 10-16
1 female 16-26
2 between

Owen LANE 1 male 45+, 1 male 10-16, 2 males<10
1 female 45+, 1 female 16-26, 1 female<10 *********
Next door!

James OZMENT 1 male 26-45, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 10-16, 3 males<10 *******
1 female 26-45, 1 female 10-16, 3 females<10

Now James OZMENT I believe is the one who is in 1820 Wilson Co, TN.
I have a copy of an old letter that says that James was the father of Alfred, not John which most Ozment researchers have as his father.
As you can see, Alfred, b. ca 1805, NC would fit in perfect with the three males
< 10. Nancy, b. ca 1801, NC fits perfectly with the 1 female under 10!
Am I crazy for hoping. Indidentally, Owen LANE's Rev. War pension file says that he was born in Caroline Co, MD where Richard OZMENT is supposed to be from too! His file says he was born ca 1755, enlisted in Caroline Co, MD, and afterwards moved to Guilford Co, NC and then Davidson Co, TN.
I also found records of an Owen LANE buying land in Wilson Co, TN in the 1820's.
The point is, wherever our OZMENTs are, so appear to be the LANEs.

Look at the others I found in 1810 Guilford Co, NC:

Descendants of Jonathan Ozment
Generation No. 1
1. JONATHAN OZMENT (SAMUEL, RICHARD) was born Abt. 1776 in Maryland, and died Abt. 1825 in Wilson County, Tennessee. He married SARAH NEATHEREY November 19, 1799 in Guilford County, North Carolina.

Notes for JONATHAN OZMENT: Jonathan moved from Guilford County, North Carolina to Wilson County, Tennessee in 1810 or 1811. He is listed in the 1810 Guilford County census.

Children of JONATHAN OZMENT and SARAH NEATHEREY are:
i. SARAH OZMENT, b. Abt. 1795, Guilford County, North Carolina; d. March 25, 1895; m. SELDON BAIRD.

ii. SAMUEL OZMENT, b. Abt. 1800, Guilford County, North Carolina; d. Aft. 1860, Hardeman County?, Tennessee; m. NANCY WADDLE, January 10, 1823, Wilson County, Tennessee.

iii. JANE OZMENT, b. Abt. 1801, Guilford County, North Carolina; d. March 25, 1895, Wilson County, Tennessee; m. JAMES C. DRAKE, December 06, 1832, Wilson County, Tennessee.

More About JANE OZMENT:
Fact 1: She is buried at the Osment Cemetery, south of Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee

2. iv. JOHN ARMSTRONG OZMENT, b. Abt. 1806, Guilford County, North Carolina; d. Aft. March 1865.

v. REBECCA L. OZMENT, b. 1816, Wilson County, Tennessee; m. JESSE A. GOODWIN, March 11, 1829, Wilson County, Tennessee.

3. vi. SOFRONIA CATHERINE OZMENT, b. 1819, Wilson County, Tennessee; d. December 13, 1896, Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee: m . Cameron "Cam" Ozment vii. EMILY OZMENT, b. Wilson County, Tennessee.

Notes for EMILY OZMENT:  She was listed as a minor in 1827.

Generation No. 2

2. JOHN ARMSTRONG4 OZMENT (JONATHAN3, SAMUEL2, RICHARD1) was born Abt. 1806 in Guilford County, North Carolina, and died Aft. March 1865. He married MARTHA HUTTON October 07, 1825 in Wilson County, Tennessee.

Children of JOHN OZMENT and MARTHA HUTTON are:
i. ROBERT BURTON"BURT"5 OZMENT, b. March 1832, Tennessee1; d. Abt. 1905, Wilson County, Tennessee2; m. NANCY JANE SCARBOROUGH, June 15, 1863, Lebannon, Wilson County, Tennessee2.

Notes for ROBERT BURTON"BURT" OZMENT:

He was listed as being a blacksmith in the Wilson County census years. He served in the Confederacy during the War Between the States; service record #554 from Wilson County, 7th infantry. His wife Nancy filed for a widow's pension #1670 from Wilson County.

ii. PANLEE OZMENT, b. Abt. 1833.

iii. TENNESSEE OZMENT, b. Abt. January 1834, Tennessee3.

Notes for TENNESSEE OZMENT:  In the 1900 Wilson County census, she was living with her brother, Burt and his family, and she was listed as being about 66 years old, and had been single all of her life.

iv. MARY OZMENT, b. Abt. 1839, Tennessee4.

v. JOHN OZMENT, b. Abt. 1840, Tennessee4.

vi. MARTHA OZMENT, b. Abt. 1842, Tennessee4.

3. SOFRONIA CATHERINE4 OZMENT (JONATHAN3, SAMUEL2, RICHARD1) was born 1819 in Wilson County, Tennessee, and died December 13, 1896 in Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee. She married CAMERON OZMENT October 25, 1841 in Wilson County, Tennessee, {Cam might be the son of JAMES OZMENT and ELIZABETH UNKNOWN. as James was living next to Cameron in the census of 1850 in Wilson County next to Cam. He would have been about the right age. James is listed as being 83 years old, which would have made him born in 1767. It has not been proven though that he is Cam's father. He seems to be the only candidate, but this is just guesswork right now. We do know that Cam b abt 1811 and (James) Thomas Ozment b after 1797 were brothers. It also seems, but again guesswork that James H. Ozment b 1801-1810, d. August 29, 1849 was also a brother to Thomas and Cam. [ONE THING ABOUT THESE JAMES...WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THEM BECAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY LM]

Notes for SOFRONIA CATHERINE OZMENT:  Sofronia was known by her middle name of Catherine. She was six years old when her father died. Her guardian, along with her sister Emily, was listed as Samuel Ozment in 1827.

More About SOFRONIA CATHERINE OZMENT:  Fact 1: She is buried at the Osment Cemetery, south of Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee

Notes for CAMERON OZMENT:  Cam Ozment's name was spelt as Ozment in the 1870 census, but he was buried under the name of Osment. Somehow the z was changed to an s by accident or design. We know his son Harrison went all of his life with his own name as Ozment.

More About CAMERON OZMENT:  Fact 1: He is buried at the Osment Cemetery.

Children of SOFRONIA OZMENT and CAMERON OZMENT are:
i. JAMES HARRISON OZMENT, b. October 28, 1844, Wilson County, Tennessee; d. December 10, 1926, Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas; m. MARGARET "MAGGIE" ANN ALVERY GRISHAM, Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee.

Notes for JAMES HARRISON OZMENT:  James Harrison Ozment went by the name of Harrison all of his life. His wife's surname is found as Grissom in some records.

ii. GREEN T. OZMENT, b. 1848, Wilson County, Tennessee; d. November 11, 1909, Wilson County, Tennessee.

More About GREEN T. OZMENT:  Fact 1: He is buried at the Osment Cemetery.

iii. FRANCES OZMENT, b. April 12, 1850, Wilson County, Tennessee; d. October 03, 1927; m. THWEAT MCCARTNEY, August 17, 1866.

iv. JOHN OZMENT, b. 1854, Wilson County, Tennessee; d. October 1902, Wilson County, Tennessee; m. DOVIE UNKNOWN.

More About JOHN OZMENT:  Fact 1: He is buried at the Osment Cemetery.

v. RUFUS DOAK OZMENT, b. March 26, 1856, Wilson County, Tennessee; d. Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee; m. ANGIE LAIN, September 05, 1886, Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee. [THERE MIGHT BE AN ERROR HERE WITH RUFUS DOAK, SOME PEOPLE SAY HE WAS THE SON OF CAMERON'S OTHER WIFES WHICH WOULD GIVE HIM A DIFFERENT BIRTHDAY. I HAVE NOT CHECKED THIS OUT YET LM]

More About ANGIE LAIN:  Fact 1: She is buried at the Osment Cemetery, south of Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee

vi. CASSANDRA "CASSIE" MELISA OZMENT, b. April 28, 1858, Wilson County, Tennessee.

vii. EDWARD OZMENT, b. 1861, Wilson County, Tennessee.

Endnotes
1. 1900 Wilson County census.
2. Nadine Christall.
3. 1900 Wilson County census.
4. 1850 Wilson County census.

Eleanor,
I have some important questions to ask of you re: your message dated 10/14/98.
(1) Would you provide me with the name of the person who wrote the old letter in your possession concerning James being the father of Alfred. I do not have ANY parents for Alfred, so that is why I need your source.

(2) Did Alfred have a brother also named James?

(3) Do you know the maiden surname of Nancy Ann LANE's mother ?

(4) Did Nancy Ann LANE have a brother also named Owen LANE (Jr.?) who was born December 26, 1775, NC and died after 1835, TN ?

Owen LANE (b. 1755, Caroline Co., MD) and my Richard OZMENT (b. ca 1759, MD; died 1830-1840, prob. Wilson Co., TN) and who married Elizabeth LeCOMPTE July 16, 1778, Caroline Co., MD) may have been VERY close friends and even related since both moved to Guilford Co., NC , (possibly Davidson Co., NC) and later to Wilson Co., TN. This lead could POSSIBLY help me confirm the parentage of my 3rd great grandfather, Howard OZMENT, with this Richard. I am fairly certain of this connection, but additional proof would be welcome.

Also, as you may recall, I am a direct descendant of the LANE family of Guilford Co., NC. Could they be related to your Owen?

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Dwight,

I don't know how much I can help you, but I will try. Most of what I put in that e-mail was information that I had just found with the OZMENTS and Owen LANE in the same place at the same time and with children the correct age to be Nancy and Alfred. I put it to e-mail hoping to get some feedback. I haven't really heard anything yet. This is pure conjecture based on too many similarities. I have found NO PROOF as of yet. I have not been able to find a will for Owen or any Bible records. I also have not found any deeds that might give a clue. I did find Owen buying some land in Wilson Co, although it might have been his son. The point I was trying to show that wherever our OZMENT families were, there was Owen LANE and other LANEs. I have put a query out on the LANE list but have heard nothing.

1) The old letter which had no date was written by Arthur Jolley to Mrs. D. L. Artchison. I have him in my files as a grandson of Alfred and Nancy Lane Ozment. Rebecca DeArmond is the one who forwarded the information to me. She says that Lamar White and Jerry & Nancy White have the best documented Ozment history that she knows of. I have not contacted them yet.
Do you know who determined that Alfred was a son of John? I received that information from someone and it directly contradicts this letter that says he and James, Jr. were sons of James Ozment and Martha Arder.
Most genealogies I have seen have him as a son of John, in fact, mine still does. In the 1810 census of Guilford Co, NC, James Ozment had 1 male 16-26, 1 male 10-16 and 3 males < 10 along with 1 female 10-16 and 3 females under 10. Alfred would have been < 10 at this time so he could definitely fit here. The only one that could be John Ozment was a J. Ozment who had 2 males 16-26, 1 male <10 (again, this could be Alfred), 1 female 26-45, 1 female 16-26, 2 females 10-16, and 1 female <10.

2) As far as I know, Alfred did have a brother named James. They did come together and settled Ozment Bluff in Drew County, AR in the early 1840's. I believe his brother James was born 7 Sept 1793 and was married to Elizabeth Eddings.

3) I do not know the name of Nancy Ann Lane's mother. I haven't found anything in the records that even mentions a woman. Keep in mind that the idea that Owen LANE is her father is just a supposition. I am also wondering if Owen's mother was an OWEN. While looking at Guilford Co, NC records, I noticed that there where several Owen families there if I remember correctly.

4)The names of Nancy Ann LANE's brothers, if she had any, is again conjecture. A clue here is the relationship with the McFadden family of Davidson Co, TN.
A Thomas LANE and a Denny LANE married daughters of Guy McFADDEN in 1819 and 1821 in Davidson Co, TN.
Nancy Ann LANE married Alfred OZMENT married in 1823 there with Rev. Guy MCFADDEN officiating.
An Owen LANE married a Polly Fly in 1819 in Davidson again officiated by Guy McFadden I believe. I believe this was the younger Owen Lane. There is evidence in census records that there were two Owen Lanes, one older and one younger.
Thomas LANE died in 1825. One of the purchasers of the estate was Greenberry OZMENT. In 1810, Owen LANE had 1 male 10-16 (this would fit an Owen Lane, Jr), 2 males < 10 and one female <10 (this would fit Nancy).
A William LANE had 2 sons < 10 and 1 female < 10 which could be Nancy but it appears that William stayed in Guilford Co, NC.
A Jonathan LANE had 4 sons < 10 with no daughters.
A John LANE appeared to have children that were too old.
Reuben Lane and Jesse Lane might work but I haven't seen any evidence that they went to Tennessee.
The one who really fits all this evidence is Owen LANE. There was an Owen LANE, age 16-26 with a wife age 16-26 in 1820 in Giles Co, TN which would fit perfectly for the Owen Lane who married Polly Fly and for being the son of Owen Lane.

In the Guilford Co, NC Land Entries, 1779-1796, Dr. A. B. Pruitt, I found evidence that Richard Ozment, Sr and Owen Lane arrived about the same time but their land was on different creeks. I have no idea how close they were. Owen and James Ozment do appear to be living next door to each other in 1810 which I think is a major clue.

#2594 3 October 1787, Richard OZMENT, Sr. enters 50 acres in Guilford Co, S side of Stoney Cr. Border: John Hunter, Florence Sullivan, Josiah Trotter, and Francis Cummings.

#2596 24 Dec 1787, Owen LANE enters 40 acres in Guilford Co, on waters of S. Buffalo Cr; Border: Parks old place on N, by Gorrel on E, Lovet on S, and Martin on W.

#2502 23 Jan 1786 William LANE enters 300 acres in Guilford Co; Border: Risdon Moore's S corner, John Hamilton, Joseph Hiett.

I hope I haven't muddied the waters more. I definitely think there is a relationship. Unfortunately, I can't prove it as of yet.

Genny,

In looking over some of your names I see you have Mary Carter in your husband's line. She is my ggggg-grandmother. I have absolutely no info on her other than John and children. I sure would appreciate any help you could give me on this side of the family.

I also see that you have Martha Heath instead of Jane Heath in his line. I know they were sisters with Martha being first married to John. My info shows the children of John being Janes children too. I have Alexander, William, Drury, Joseph, Thomas, Juriah, Martha and John. Were some of these children Martha's. Everything I have found shows Jane as the mother. Of course, I have some material that I have not had time to go into in depth. My line goes on into the Shannons, VanHooks, Leas and McCartneys. The Rogers family is also in my line married into the Shannons. I have received some info on Floods too. Some of the other names in your husbands family make little side trips into some of my family but I don't think I have any info on any of them.
Hope we can help each other.

Hi Joyce:
On Carter I only have this:
FIRST GENERATION
1. Armistead CARTER was born in Virginia. He married._____He had the following children:
+2 i. Mary CARTER

SECOND GENERATION
2. Mary CARTER was born in 1745 in Virginia. Died in 1828 in Tennessee. She married John LANE (II). John LANE (II) was born in 1747. Died in 1815 in Wilson County, Tennessee. They had the following children: (listing only my husban'd's line)
+3 i. Tyree LANE
----
As to the Heath women, I checked the file Heather Bowers sent me on Lane's and she, too, shows Jane Heath as the Mother, instead of Martha.... And she shows William Heath as the father of both Martha & Jane and his wife was Martha _____
.....all of the children you mention are under Jane, and not under Martha....so I guess I need to revise that one....

...Heather Bowers, ...does a Lane newsletter and has a Lane webpage...
Which one of John Lane's children are you from?
One of the earlier John Lane's married a Jane Flood....

Genny,
Thanks for info on Carter family. That is more than I had.
My line goes from John and Mary Carter Lane,
Armstead Lain and Sarah Lea,
Armstead Lain, Jr. and Nancy McCartney,
William Lain and Sarah VanHook,
Julia Alice Lain and John Haney Shannon.

I have some info on Jane Flood. Most of it is not proven. I do have where John Flood came over in 1610 and his wife Margett Fludd came over in 1620 with her daughter from a first marriage and with their son William, 3 weeks. I can only guess John must have gone back to England and married. If that was not so I think Margett had a lot of explaining to do about a son that age. The info I have on the rest of their children shows them all born in England but that doesn't agree with the dates of their immigrating to America so I think some more research needs to be done on these. They are in the Family Library through Mormon Church.

Also some of the early Lanes are listed too. Any info you would like to share I would love to have and if I have anything you think you might like to have just let me know.

I know there is some controversy over who Armstead Lain Jrs. parents are.

I go along with the line of Armstead and Sarah Lea until I have proof otherwise. A copy of his will states a Armstead Jr. and William F as two of his children.

If I have anything you think you might like to have just let me know and it's yours.

Till later, Joyce

Robyn (& others),
Just a few days ago, I told you I would notify you when I found my Mary S. LANE's parents. Well, that day has come. Mary's death certificate lists her father as Robert C. LANE, and her mother as Mary RUTLAND. The parents' places of birth are marked "unknown."

I found a marriage for Robert C. LAIN and Johanna RUTLAND in Wilson Co., TN on 08 Aug 1848 on my AAI Early Marriages CD. Likewise, I found the following two census index entries:

1850 TN Census entry:
LAIN, Robert C. 22, Johnnah 19, Martha 10/12, T T, WL-167-893.

1880 Wilson Co., TN Census entry:
LANE, R.C. 51(m)*, Cordellia 10 (599).

Do you have further information on this family? Do you know for certain that Johanna RUTLAND went by the name Mary?

Nancy,
On the LANES, I believe that Aaron Heath LANE is the father of Harvey Shelton LANE who married Belzey Caroline HAGAR.
Mary Jane Lane mar John Henry Hamblen,
Charles Cason Hamblen mar Ada Bell Smith,
Clara Bell Hamblen mar Grafton Lee Graves,
Donna Claire Graves mar Donald E. Ferrell.

I have disproved as the father of Harvey, William, John, Tyree and some of Armistead, but I have a "gap" in Armistead's children where it is possible that Harvey could fit. Harvey was born 1824. There is NO record of Aaron's children that I can find.
Aaron's wife was Nancy Monroe and Harvey named a son Monroe, not much, but a clue I guess. DO NOT know any of Harvey's siblings...........
I think Robert M. & Johnson are his brothers & I believe that Mary/Polly Lane who married Hollis Hagar is his sister. I believe there is a connection between Hollis Hagar and Belzey Caroline Hagar who married Harvey.
I have papers showing she was indentured at the age of three, I sent a copy to Robyn and Janice. She was to be indentured until the age of 18 and was not to leave the state (NC), but she married three months before her 18th birthday in Wilson Co TN. I believe when the HAGARS left NC, she came with them. I don't know why she was indentured & why the Hagars did not take her in as a child. I believe it was either or
1. Her parents died & she was an only child & maybe the family did not approve of her mother. 2. She was the baby of a large family & when her parents died all the other children were taken into other Hagar families, but Belzey not being old enought to work or care for herself was indentured.
Whatever the circumstances the HAGARS did not leave her in NC when they came to TN. Could Hollis be an older brother, uncle or what, but he was related!
Well there it is, any suggestions?
Donna

Hi, Donna,

Nancy sent me your LANE info request. I will do some digging and see what I can find. I am certain that
(1) there is a blood connection between the WRIGHT family and the HOLLIS and HAGAR families;
(2) that the LANES are like the WRIGHTS, mostly from an original ancestor back there somewhere........

I have a copy of Heather Bowers LANE's descendancy papers, and I'm trying to figure out who are the children of John LANE and Mary Watts MULLINS?

It looks like there are two separate lists and the two don't agree with each other or else I am reading it wrong. Can you help me?

Thanks for sending Joyce Anderson's name and address. .... Still no success on the parents of Harvey Shelton LANE.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have anything beyond what Heather  Bowers sent me in a Gedcom family history file......but I would imagine if you pose your question to her, she may be able to sort it out for you....

And it could be like what I am finding on my Ozment/Osment bunch...somebody has put Richard S.Ozment and Richard D. Ozment together and come up with similar, but not the same children....don't know how we will ever get that straight!!

I have a Mullins line and am on the Mullins mailing list....guess I could post the question to that list and see if we come up with anything.....

Hey folks,

By accident, I happened upon the following entry yesterday.
From Wilson County Chancery Court Records 1850-1854:
"Bill of complaint of Robert C. Lain against P.K. Williamson, executor of James M. Crutchfield, James W. Bashaw and wife Elizabeth B., Richard T. and Nancy Crutchfield, the minor children of the said James M. Crutchfield. Said Robert C. Lain states that his grandfather, Wood Jones, died in 1833. He gave to his daughter, Elizabeth B. several slaves. If said Elizabeth B. died within 90 years without issue, then the increase was to be divided among the other heirs. Said Elizabeth B. was the wife of Adison Lain. She was divorced from his father in 1833 or 34. She then intermarried with James M. Crutchfield by whom she had two children, to wit, Richard T. and Nancy E. The said Robert C.
