Hancock, Powell, Tarver, Babb, Taylor, Smith, Dawson, Skean:

Hi, Hancock searchers,

MARY HANNAH HANCOCK was MARY HANNAH POWELL, daughter of JOHN POWELL and his wife, ELIZABETH ASBURY TARVER. She was born in 1815 in WIlson Co., and died in 1860 in TX. According to POWELL family records, she had four children.

JOHN POWELL was born November 21, 1782, Franklin Co., NC, and died December 2, 1847, Wilson Co., TN. He is buried in a small grove of trees adjacent to U.S. Highway 70 just east of the road off the highway by Bethlehem Methodist Church.
He was one of two children (the other, a daughter, MARY POWELL, who married THOMAS BABB, as his first wife in Wilson Co.) of WILLIAM POWELL who died by 1785 in Franklin Co., TN., and his wife, RUTH ANN TAYLOR (1756-1835).

ELIZABETH ASBURY TARVER was born May 21, 1792 in either Wake Co. or Northampton Co., NC, and died June 22, 1848, Wilson Co., TN, and is buried beside her husband. Their graves were covered by raised "tombs" covered by concrete slabs containing their births and deaths. She was the daughter of BENJAMIN TARVER and his wife, HANNAH SMITH.

RUTH ANN TAYLOR was the daughter of JOHN and MARY TAYLOR of Franklin Co., NC. She married as her second husband after JOHN POWELL's death, WILLIAM BABB (brother of THOMAS) and the BABBS brought the two POWELL children with their BABB family to Wilson Co. Their log house stands behind Bethlehem Methodist
Church as a historic site of the TN Conference of the United Methodist Church.

WILLIAM and THOMAS were sons of JOHN BABB of Franklin Co., NC, who deeded lands to the two sons, as recorded in the Wilson Co Deed books.

Regarding the SAMUEL HANCOCK who died leaving the minor children. He was the son of SAMUEL HANCOCK and MILDRED DAWSON and a brother of MARTIN.
His widow, VERLINDA, was a SKEAN.

Sorry...I forgot to mention that I will post the comments made by BENJAMIN TARVER, JR., uncle of MARY HANNAH, in his "Biographical Sketch" tomorrow.
