The following correspondence pertains to Wilson County TN
Eddins, Eddings, Edens. Chandler, and
Ozment:
Please note:
I have placed this information together on web pages as a service
to try to help in the ongoing research on these lines.
There is some conflicting information and I, for one, do not have the answers!!
This is my husband's line as goes back from Goodman, to Lane/Laine/Lain in
Wilson County then to the Ozment family, and to the Chandler and Eddins family.
Any assistance in bringing the information to light will be
appreciated.

Yes I would like to have a copy of the Eddings text that you spoke of.
Now let me tell you about my Ozments and Eddins (Eddings) . I am sure they
are the same family. I haven't worked on this line for a long time. All my
records on the Ozment, Spinks are not in the computer as of yet. I hope to
get on it soon. But this is what I have that I can find and remember.
I am descended from Richard D. OZMENT & Rebecca EDDINS. I don't have
Richard's father right now, but I think he may have been John OZMENT.
Richard was born in Guilford County, NC in 1800. He married Rebecca "Polly"
EDDINS in Wilson County TN.
Rebecca was born in 1800 in Laurens County, SC. She was the daughter of William
"Billy" EDDINS and Rebecca CHANDLER. Rebecca died 16 Mar. 1843 and is buried
in the Old Eddins family Cemetery located on the Elmer Rowland Farm on Tucker
Gap road west of Lebanon TN in Wilson County.
Richard OZMENT & his children moved from Wilson County Tenn. to
Saline County in Southern Illinois, west of Harrisburg. Richard & children
came to Saline County in company of his daughter and son-in-law James Presley
SPINKS. James was a son of John SPINKS & Sarah (CRAWFORD) Spinks of Wilson
County TN.
Richard OZMENT died 13 April 1866 in Saline County & is buried
in the Moore Vinson Cemetery west of Harrisburg. His youngest son James J.
OZMENT is buried there also. He died during the Civil War at the Jefferson
Barracks near St. Louis, MO . James and his brothers, Richard D. Ozment Jr.
& William Ozment were in Co. B 31st Illinois Volunteer Infantry during
the Civil War.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Jim:
You sent me the following and I have now posted it on my web page at:
https://sites.rootsweb.com/~tngenny1/query8.html
I don't have the answer as I got my info from someone else, in fact I think it was the Chandler file that I downloaded from AOL a few years ago, and never could track down the man who submitted it; however, when I told Thomas Partlow about the file, he said it probably was copied from some of his work!!
Vivian Hull ([email protected]) and Joel Dobson ([email protected] -this is a bad address, need new one) both had about the same info as what I had; then yesterday Vivian sent me the following note about some incorrect dates:
I had two more Eddings queries in the batch I posted today on the same
page as yours,
Tennessee Genealogy
Queries 8 - query8.html
plus a DONNELL query. Guess we all need to get together online and puzzle
this out......I don't have any of the information that would say where and
when....wish I did!!
I am also copying one of the Eddings queries from Lon Martin at the end of yours, plus sending him, Vivian, and Joel a copy of this note.

Hi Nancy.... Going over some old data and one which I believe came from your home page on the Chandlers... and Eddins..[.https://sites.rootsweb.com/~tngenny1/chandler.html ]
I noted that William Eddins, Jr. b. 1810 d. 1885 m. Aug 10, 1810 to Sally Hooker who was b. Jul 26, 1813...... Looks like they married before they were born ???
And to top that off, I checked my own records on them and I have..
Descendants of William Jr. Eddins
1 William Jr. Eddins b: August 10, 1828 d: 1885 in WILSON CTY. TN.
. +SALLY b: July 26, 1813 m: August 10, 1810 in Wilson Cty. TN.
... so mine is in the same kind of mess.... Thought you might have caught
it by now and found the correct info... If so, I would appreciate your passing
it along and if not... well neither of us want to be giving out bad stuff....
...... TTYL. Vivian

Dear Nancy:
I need help! I just started a correspondence with a cousin who shares Rebecca Chandler and William Eddins with me as ancestors. They are my 4th great grandparents whom I didn't have info. about until this week. They branch from my CAPEL line. The problem is my cousin has books showing them to have been born and married in England. I am including excerpts from her e-mails showing this along with their info. as shown on your site. Is there any chance you could verify either version of this very important line of our ancestry? We would be extremely grateful if you could. If you wish, I will send you my ancestry line.
Thank you for taking the time to read this very long message.

"James :
In Book " Early Families of Wilson Co. TN " by Thomas Partlow 1975
I found The Eddins Family.
William Eddins Sr. belonged to the family of Eddins of castle Eden, Edendene,
Durham, England. He married in England Rebecca Chandler who was daughter
of Robert and Rebecca Chandler of London , England. Rebecca Chandler's brother
Josiah Chandler , married Sarah Eddins who was sister of William Eddins Sr.
The couple are said to have married at the same time in England, and then
migrated imediately to the New World. They eventually settled in Wilson Co.
TN. around 1805. I know Tom Partlow had made a trip to England . He probably
got his information from same papers that Malcolm Hooker did in Library in
Nashville. Those attachments I sent tell of the papers and where they are
and who wrote them.
I have a Book "Chandlers of Kansas" by Billy M. Jones.
Has Richard , became first Chandler to chart a course of Westward immigration. Some time after 1620 he sailed from essex England to America in employ of the Honorable Co. of Virginia he laid claims to land on border of VA. and MD , massacred by indians 3/22/1622. 3 of 4 son s came over the following year, John, Thomas and Author on different ships to minimize the danger of shipwreck to reestablish claims to his property . George, the 4th son came in 1835.All became members of Landed Gentry

around present Newport News and in same year executed a bond joint with Samuel
Chandler , a London Merchant dated 2/17/1639. His Occupation Planter. Rank

Hello,
I am kin to the Ozments and have some information on them. I was wondering
if you had anything on them. My ancestors were from Wilson County, Tennessee
mainly. I do have both Eddings marriages to the Ozments and their children,

... need more info on the Richard Ozment family listed in 1830 cen. Wilson
Co., TN, page #71.
I believe the "old man" Richard (age60-69,marr. Elizabeth LeCOMPTE,Caroline
Co.,MD,1778) listed in same household is my 4th Gr.Grandfather who moved
to Wilson Co. from Guilford Co., NC about 1820.
Trying to definitely connect this Richard to my (apparent) 3rd GG,
Howard Ozment, (born abt. 1778 in MD or VA.,married Elizabeth LISTER Guilford
Co.,NC).
No record of will or other record giving names of any children for
Richard in Guilford Co.NC. Possibly some source in TN can help.
I have the info on Eddins/Eddings and Chandler connection to Ozment
family - different branch.
If I can prove connection between "old man Richard of TN", I can trace
back to John OSMENT, Sr. of England.
Can you help or provide lead?
Thanks.

Mrs. Goodman,
My name is Jesse Carol Holloway.
My mother was Iva Bernice Ozment, daughter of Bowen Hasque Ozment of Drew
County Arkansas.
It is obvious from a study of some material you had on your web page that
I am of the same line of Ozments as your husband in the Eddins line.
My mother was descended from both of the Ozment brothers (Alfred and James
H.) who came to Drew County in the early 1800s.
I don't have as much time to spend on my family tree as I would like; but
I have nearly 50000 names in my family file at the present time.
Along with the Owen and Raley lines in my fathers family, I have some names
going back to well before 1000 AD.
I would be interested in corresponding with you and others regarding the
Ozment/Eddins/White family.
My E-Mail address is somewhat restricted by my employer; but I can be reached

Hi Genny.
I am looking for information about both my great gf and gggf, My great
grandfathers name was James Alfred Eddings. His wife's name was Lela M. Watkins.
She was from Tenn.
He was born in Mo. according to my grandfathers birth cert. (possibly the
Kenneth? area).
I know they lived in Manila Ark. when my grandfather was born.
J.A. Eddings was born around 1880, not sure when he died.
This is where it gets confusing: either James' father or grandfather was
named William -
I have no middle name (for him). William was married to a Caroline, no maiden
name known. William was supposed to have been killed in the Civil War because
Caroline lived off his pension. I was told by one of my cousins that there
is supposed to be records in Diceburg? Tenn. There is supposed to be a lot
of Indian in this line as well, from all I have been told.
Thanks for any help you can give; you can pass this on to any one that might
have info.
