Dyersburg, Tenn. Sept. 16 - At a preliminary trial Miles YOUNG was acquitted of killing "Fatty" DAVIS who lost his life Saturday night in a place run by Charles PURCELL. The trial was held by Squire W. A. FOWLKES. A number of witnesses testified that the killing was accidental. The testimony of the trial showed the YOUNG and a plumber named NEAL had a misunderstanding about 50 cents at a card table. NEAL attempted to pull a gun on YOUNG, when the latter pulled an automatic pistol out of the table drawer and struck his antagonist in the face. The force of the blow fired the gun, the ball entered the right side of C. H. DAVIS, who was standing near by. DAVIS was from Memphis.

Rev. C. E. NORMAN, Messrs. E. L. EVANS, W. E. WRAY, and R. E. PARKER went to Jackson Monday to inspect plans for a new Methodist church building.

Miss Willie BEASLEY of Memphis is the guest of her sister, Mrs. W. P. WRAY.

Elder PHILLIPS of Maury City will preach at the Christian Church next Sunday at 11 a.m.

Miss Flossie MEREDITH of Tigrett will clerk for W. F. PARKER this fall.

Miss Myrtle DAVIS of Obion visited Mr. & Mrs. W. P. SANDERS this week.

W. H. SUDBURY, cashier of the Farmer & Merchant Bank, attended court in Alamo this week.

Bob COLE is managing the job of turning the Anderson buggy house and Carter Bros. Poolroom around on Depot Street.

Mrs. J. L. STALLINGS has returned from Miss. accompanied by her sister, Mrs. ROGERS of Oklahoma.

E. E. NOEL and family have returned from Ark.

Willie BROTHER of Bonicord was in town yesterday.

James CURTIS and T. J. YANCEY went to Jackson Friday. JAMES returned home Sunday. T. J. will enter school in Jackson Monday.

Dr. Clyde NASH of Bonicord was in Friendship Wednesday.

Mrs. D. T. LEMONS returned Saturday from Fowlkes and Bruceville where she has been visiting relatives.

Master Franklin SUDBURY was painfully injured about the head by a horse a few days ago. He is getting along nicely.

Ed NICHOLS, popular grocery man of Crockett Mills was here Wednesday.

Mrs. Norman PENTACOST returned to her home in Memphis yesterday after a visit to Mr. & Mrs. Victor GROUNDS.

Mrs. Liva BOLING and Mrs. Eugene MENZIES of Dyersburg and Mrs. FREEMAN of Memphis are guest of Dr. YORK and family.

City Marshal GRIFFIN has been sick for several days.

Dr. Will STALLINGS leaves Saturday for Memphis where he will enter school.

Miss Annie FONES was a visitor here Saturday and Sunday.

Mrs. W. W. THOMPSON and son spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. W. M. CURTIS.

Miss Lida Sue SIMS has been quite sick for several days.
