A. J. ALFORD, prominent merchant of Rutherford, shot and instantly killed W. S. COULTER and Harry COULTER, prominent attorneys of Dyer, as they were boarding a north bound train at Trenton Monday afternoon. The elder COULTER was 54 years of age and the son 23. All parties connected with the terrible tragedy were wealthy and prominent. It is said that the killing was the result of trouble over ALFORD's wife who is the daughter of W. P. ELROD, banker at Rutherford.

Messrs Roy and George COFFMAN and Miss Wynona CURTIS went to Maury City Tuesday in Roy's car. Roy and George played with the Maury ball team against Alamo and helped the Maury boys to win the game.

Mr. Pigue WILLIAMS, residing across the Dyer County line, reported the first open cotton of the season yesterday.

Mrs. Annie COFFMAN has decided to move her family to Memphis instead of Nashville on account of school advantages.

Dr. Thos. GROUNDS is building a new residence on Harwell Heights for rent.

Felix CATES died Monday at home near Humboldt, aged 62 years. He was a brother of J. M. CATES of this place and his many other relatives in this county.

Jim SUDBURY of Blytheville, Ark. is the guest of relatives near town.

Horace PARK of Bells was here Tuesday.

S. S. CALDWELL has accepted a position with the Friendship Pharmacy. Mr. CALDWELL is an experienced pharmacist and has held a position in the city of Memphis for ten years, working in Washburn's Pharmancy on Main Street with Mr. R. T. COFFMAN, present proprietor of the Friendship Pharmacy.

L. B. HARWELL left Monday for his future home, Tucson, Ariz. He will return in the fall to settle up his business here.

Mr. Pate WILLIAMS of Eaton moved into the Coffman residence Monday. He will run a hotel.

Miss Olive PEAL of Bonicord visited Miss Gladys SUDBURY this week.

John York PATE of near Bonicord was her Monday.

Miss Kate BROTHERS of Dyersburg has been visiting her sister, Mrs. W. H. SUDBURY.

Messrs. L. B. and J. P. HARWELL were in Maury City last week.

Col. Tom FERGUSON of Dyersburg was here Tuesday.

New member of the faculty of Friendship Training School - a fine boy born to Prof. and Mrs. M. E. WHITSON.

Dr. SCOTT of Curve, Tenn. has located here for the practice of his profession. He has an office in the Coffman building.

Bennett SORRELL spent Saturday night and Sunday in Dyersburg.

City Marshal GRIFFIN was in Dyersburg Sunday.

Eula JONES of Halls was in Friendship Sunday.

Judge J. F. SPENCE of Kennett, Mo. visited Mr. & Mrs. R. E. EDMONSON this week.

Mrs. Frank PORTER of Paris is the guest of C. J. ANDERSON and family.

Ernest GROGAN of Augusta, Ark. is the guest of home folks.

B. H. PERRY was in Memphis last week.

Dr. Will THOMPSON of Crockett Mills was here Wednesday.

Attorney W. H. WARD of Dyersburg was here Wednesday.

Miss Grace SMITH is visiting in Paducah, Ky.

Esq. F. S. MOORE was in Halls Wednesday.
