Chief John Ross Chapter
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
Chattanooga, Tennessee
Chief John Ross Chapter, NSDAR,
organized December 23, 1922,
was named for John Ross, the Principal Chief of the Cherokee
Nation from 1818 to 1866. In 1815, John Ross established
Ross's Landing on the banks of the Tennessee River; Ross's
Landing became Chattanooga in 1836
In 1958, a bronze bust of Chief
John Ross was placed on the
northwest lawn of the HamiltonCounty Courthouse,
Chattanooga, Tennessee.
On the east side of the monument is engraved:
John Ross, October 3, 1790 - August 1, 1866
Adjudant Cherokee Regiment
War of 1812
Faithful to his trust he spent
his life
in the service of his Nation.
