MESSAGE FROM NATIONAL PRESIDENT: JAN. GENIE SESSION FINISHED

Our Genies have completed the latest Genie session and they have done phenomenal work in reviewing the supplementals that were submitted to the January session. The session was short two Genies due to Covid-19 issues and the session ended a day early because of the unrest in the District of Columbia before the Inauguration. It was recommended that our ladies leave on Friday the 15th as the bridges were being closed and many of the main streets were blocked with national guard soldiers and equipment. The Registrar General Courtenay and her genies reviewed a total of 603 supplementals- all that had been received by December 15. Of these, 578 were approved and additional information was requested for 24 of the supplementals. Twenty-five new ancestors were identified. Since the report for the WINTER REVIEW, Registrar General Stanley has reviewed 253 new Applications and she has approved 219 of these. Her totals for this administration are: SUPPLEMENTALS: 1688 reviewed; 1594 approved ORIGINAL APPLICATIONS: 1342 reviewed; 1186 approved Thank you Mrs. Stanley and the Genies for all you do for this Society!

IMPORTANT: There are genetic testing scams surfacing all over the nation. They promise you results on health issues (like cancer) and you don't have to pay them: they charge MEDICARE. But you don't get any results, but the scammers get tens of thousands of $$$ from Medicare. Go to this link to view the CBS News article.

The 2021 State Conference was held digitally due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Technical problems prevented others from being able to join the meeting including National President Nan Ackerman who was to be our guest. We apologize to those who could not access the meeting, but we are still not sure why that happened.

The program was presented by Sergeant Matt Kreeb, the 510th recipient of the rare Tomb Guard Identification Ba dge. Matt related his experiences as he went through training and then served nearly 4 years as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The training is rigorous - both mentally and physically - and few who start the training actually finish and serve for very long. We sincerely appreciate Matt for his service and for taking the time to join us and present his personal experience in this unique military service.

Following the program and reports, the slate of names for new officers was presented; with no nominations from the floor, the slate of officers was elected by acclamation. Honorary President General Mary Johnston then installed the new officers for 2021-2023. New officers are: President Edwinna Denning, First V.P. Phyllis Little, Second V.P. Felicia Wilt, Chaplain Loni Harris, Recording Secretary Janie Bitner, Corresponding Secretary Wanda Taylor, Organizing Secretary Carole Fields, Treasurer Grace Highfill, Registrar Sarita Patterson, Historian Sandra McRae, and Librarian Pauline Moore. With no in-person meeting, a group picture of the new officers will have to wait until August Board of Management meeting.
