There could be more graves there, because there are see sunk-in areas
visible, however the grave of Tobie Hayes is the only one that has a
headstone. The cemetery is located at the edge of the woods, but you
can see it from the road, in Lower Caney Valley. The best opportunity
to view the area is in the fall of the year when all the leaves and
vines are not covering up the area. |
Tobie Hayes was the son of Wiley Lee Hayes and Mollie Brooks, and the
grandson of Winnie Hayes. He is the great grandson of Greenberry Hayes
and Elizabeth Ann Evans Shelton Hayes.
His
siblings were; John Henry Hayes who married Etta Baker; Winnie Hayes
who married 'unknown' Henry; Thomas Hayes; Floyd Hayes who
married Anna Wellman; and Jessie Hayes who married 'unknown' Carter.
Tobie's
mother, Mollie Brooks,
is buried in the Brooks Cemetery in Claiborne County, Tennessee; his
brother, John Henry Hayes,
is buried in the Seals Chapel Church Cemetery in Claiborne County,
Tennessee; and his brother, Floyd Hayes,
died in Dearborn, Michigan, and is most likely buried in Michigan. |
