The Tobie Hayes Cemetery

The Tobie Hayes Cemetery is located just off Lower Caney Valley Road in the Caney Valley Community.

Our deepest thanks goes out to Tina Cooke, who provided the photograph and information.

There could be more graves there, because there are see sunk-in areas visible, however the grave of Tobie Hayes is the only one that has a headstone. The cemetery is located at the edge of the woods, but you can see it from the road, in Lower Caney Valley. The best opportunity to view the area is in the fall of the year when all the leaves and vines are not covering up the area.

Tobie Hayes was the son of Wiley Lee Hayes and Mollie Brooks, and the grandson of Winnie Hayes. He is the great grandson of Greenberry Hayes and Elizabeth Ann Evans Shelton Hayes.

His siblings were; John Henry Hayes who married Etta Baker; Winnie Hayes who married 'unknown' Henry; Thomas Hayes; Floyd Hayes who married Anna Wellman; and Jessie Hayes who married 'unknown' Carter.

Tobie's mother, Mollie Brooks, is buried in the Brooks Cemetery in Claiborne County, Tennessee; his brother, John Henry Hayes, is buried in the Seals Chapel Church Cemetery in Claiborne County, Tennessee; and his brother, Floyd Hayes, died in Dearborn, Michigan, and is most likely buried in Michigan.
