The GAR Memorial obelisk is located in Washington, DC on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, at the intersection of 7th & Pennsylvania. It is diagonally across the intersection from the National Archives building, and across the street from the Navy Memorial Metro Stop.
I visit the National Archives several times a week, to do research on the 4th TN Cav. Most weekday evenings I am there after dark, too late to be able to enjoy the Memorial, but on Saturday afternoons, when I leave the Archives after a long day of poring through microfilmed records, I enjoy setting a spell at the little park where the Memorial is situated. I find the GAR Memorial to be aesthetically pleasing, and I hope that all who see it will take note of its significance.
