Commentary on Roundhill School photograph #036 - Comments 10/01/2013.

Memories of his schooldays came flooding back when a Roundhill School old boy saw a picture from the past on the Thurmaston Heritage Group website. See Roundhill School 1955

The photo, taken in 1955, shows pupils at Roundhill Secondary School. Peter Rippin, now aged 73, is among the large gathering featured. He was prompted to unearth another picture taken at the school in the same year.

He says: "My recollection of events that happened nearly 60 years ago is a little hazy. But I believe this is a group of pupils who took the old O-Level exams in their final year. This was the first time that Roundhill pupils had been given the chance to take O-Levels. I think that all of us came through with flying colours. I can remember all of the names except two."

Back row (left to right): John Haywood, Eric Hudson (head boy), Roy Nixon, Peter Rippin (head prefect). Front row: Paul Mayo, [not known] (head girl), Philip Roberts (known as "Bunny), Valerie Fish, [not known].
