Somerset County Map Pages
The purpose of these pages is to provide a series of township maps of Somerset County during its earliest days. Maps are available so far for the first four townships created.
Here is a link to a detailed 1872 map of Somerset County. This is the base map from which the others were made.

Early Townships
The first six townships were organized before Somerset County was formed in 1795. These townships were:
- Brothers Valley, 1771
- Turkeyfoot, 1773
- Quemahoning, 1775
- Milford, 1780
- Elk Lick, 1785
- Stony Creek, 1792
- Brothers Valley Township
- Before Somerset County was first organized, it was a part of Bedford County. The first township organized was Brothers Valley Township, which was created at the same time that Bedford County was formed from Cumberland County in 1771. Brothers Valley Township contained all of the area which comprises present day Somerset County.

- Milford Township
- In about 1780, Milford Township was created out of the northern portion of Turkeyfoot Township. Its exact boundaries and creation date are not known. However, a fairly good idea of its original boundaries can be obtained based on the description given in the Somerset County history.
These were the four townships in existence when the tax lists of 1783-1784 were taken.
