Her mother and a twin brother died at birth, and she was raised by an aunt and uncle, Evan and Anne Vaughan, in Chester, England. As a young woman she moved to Warrington, England, and worked at a tailor shop there. A young man, Charles Turner, met and fell in love with her. He worked for a rich American, Mr. Willam Bartlett of Chicago, a millionaire and known as the "Wheat King of the world." After two trips back to England, he brought her over to America in 1906. Nancy and Charles first lived in Rockford, Illinois. About 1910 she worked for a year at Vermejo Park, a large ranch in New Mexico, then they returned to Rockford. They were divorced about 1915.

According to letters from Madge Callen, T. D. and Nancy met "on the golf greens" at Rockford, where she managed the Elks Club golf course. They were married in Rockford on May 22, 1918. Nancy always thought she could never have children, but she had an operation of some kind, and in 1920 and 1921 their two children were born.
T.D. was a Beloit city councilman and ran a bakery. This bakery supported the whole family including his mother and several brothers and sisters. He had left the Catholic Church but recanted on his deathbed and was buried in the Catholic cemetery in Stoughton after his death in 1941. Nancy lived with her daughter Nancy for many years at 717 1/2 Wisconsin Avenue in Beloit, and died in 1956.

T. D. CORCORAN
DIES; BUSINESS
MAN 50 YEARS
Timothy D. Corcoran, veteran Beloit business man and former councilman died at 5 a. m. today at his home, 622 Harrison Avenue.
Six weeks ago Mr. Corcoran became ill. Because of his age, he was 81 years old, physicians were doubtful of his recovery. Last Saturday, he observed his 81st birthday. He grew steadily weaker and he was unable to leave his bed since the day he was stricken.
Funeral is Saturday
Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the E. A. Daley funeral home, and at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas' Catholic church. The Rev. Father T. A. O'Reilly will officiate. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery at Stoughton. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Corcoran came to Beloit more than 50 years ago from Stoughton. He was born near Stoughton, Feb. 29, 1860. He was the agent for the American Express Company here, and held that position only a few years when he purchased the Vale bakery.
The Vale bakery was one of the early food businesses in Beloit. It was a popular place for businessmen and other persons of the community to meet, and for many years Mr. Corcoran operated a restaurant in connection with the bakery.
An attractive feature of the bakery and restaurant under his management in the early years was a balcony on the east side of the building over the river. During the summer months, both youngsters and adults favored the balcony where ice cream was served, and it was pleasant to sit there and watch the water of the river below on a warm afternoon.
Interested in Fair
While Mr. Corcoran was not a baker by profession, his business ability assured success in a new field, and the bakery continued uninterrupted. He spent his time each day at the bakery until he became ill.
Operation of the Winnebago county fair was one of his earlier interests. He was prominent in that organization for a number of years until the fair was discontinued and the old-time fairgrounds in South Beloit became only a memory.
Operation of his business claimed the greater part of his time, although he was interested in politics. He had always been a Democrat, and many years ago he was rated as one of two or three staunch members of that party in Beloit.
Was Council President
Mr. Corcoran served the city as councilman from April, 1932 until April, 1935. He first was elected for a term of one year, and he was re-elected in 1933 for a two-year term. After his re-election, he served as president of the council.
Before his election to public office in Beloit, he spent many of the winter seasons in California. He wintered at LaJolla where he was a popular member of the Beloit winter colony group.
Survivors are his wife, three children, Timothy Corcoran and Nancy Corcoran of Beloit, and Mrs. Catherine Corcoran Siefert of Long Island, N. Y.
