I've be compiling the genealogy of my family since January 2001. In the early days of my research, I wasn't as careful in documenting the sources of information as I should have been. If a fact is not documented, then I'm not sure of the source. |
The LeBlanc and Aucoin branches of my family were two of the many families that were members of the original settlement of Acadians in Port Royal. During the expulsion of the Acadians, both of my branches of the family were among many others who were shipped to England and held in camps for several years. It took them about twenty years to make their way back to Nova Scotia and the western shore of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The Aucoins came to Cheticamp and the LeBlancs to East Margaree. This was not a straightforward passage. Evidence of this can be found in chronicling the relationship of of my great-great-great grandparents, Joseph and Hélène (LeBlanc) LeBlanc. Joseph's parents were married in Arichat, Cape Breton Island. Both Hélène and Joseph were born in Prince Edward Island and they were married in East Margaree. |
The MacLean branch of my family emigrated from Scotland in the early 1800's. Stopping for a brief stay in Prince Edward Island, they settled in the Broad Cove Banks (present day Strathlorne and Inverness) area of Cape Breton Island. When if comes to the Cameron branch, I've hit a brick wall. Here is what I know: according to the 1891 and 1901 census of Canada, my great-great grandparents, John A. Cameron (1763) and Catherine MacDonald (1769) were married and living in Thorburn, Pictou County, Nova Scotia with my grandmother Mary Ann Cameron (1888-1962) and their other children Florence and Catherine; according to my grandmother's obituary, there was also a son, Angus, who was living New Waterford, Cape Breton Island in 1962. I know nothing about John A.'s and Catherine's parents. If you know anything about this family, I'd love to hear from you. |
In researching my family, I've come across many useful primary and secondary sources of information that have been valuable to me. Some of these are web sites and can be found on the links page, and others are documents and books that I have either transcribed or indexed and they can be found on the reports page. |
All of the reports from my family tree on this site protect information on those still living unless otherwise publically available. I would be happy to share information with anyone who can show a direct link to an individual in my tree. I would also be happy to hear from anyone with connections to families mentioned in my tree. You can see the complete details of my family tree on Rootsweb. |
