THE DUFFY PAPERS

Click Here to Search This Site

This web site is a work in progress. I’m working my way through three boxes of handwritten letters and clipped newspaper articles dating from the 1830’s through roughly 1920.

The Duffy Papers are comprised of letters, a family bible, newspaper clippings and other documents written by or about descendants of Charles Duffy who immigrated to America circa 1826 from Killygordon, County of Donegal, Parish of Donaughmore, Ireland, following in the footsteps of his son Francis Duffy who came to America in 1819 and settled in Hartsville, Sumner County (now Trousdale County), Tennessee.

CHARLES 1 DUFFY (wife’s name was Elinor) Born May 1770 Died October 5, 1826

Parker – daughter of Thomas Parker & his wife Susan Rogers and granddaughter of Nathaniel Parker & his wife Elizabeth Scott.  Nathaniel Parker after his wife Elizabeth's death migrated from Patterson Creek, Hampshire County, Virginia (now Mineral County, W.V.) to Sumner County, TN. about 1791.

Hugh Rogan married Nancy Ann Duffy (thought to be sister of Charles Duffy –Francis Duffy’s Father)  (Per this link Ann Duffy was born at Strabane, Ireland, which is the bigger town, just to the east of Killygordon, Ireland where Francis Duffy was born and the 2nd largest town in County Tyrone, Ireland.)  Charles Duffy's headstone reputedly states "brother-in-law to pioneer Hugh Rogan"
