Records obtained from Santee Cooper Authority by Mrs. T.L. Connor, Eutawville, SC. The bit of history of Somerton Plantation by Mr. Henry R. Dwight.

Somerton Plantation: Located three mile north of Pinopolis. First granted to John Stewart in 1690 (Could be 1696). Acquired by William Scriven in 1698. (He was the first Baptist minister in South Carolina). In 1708, he sold the place to Rene Ravenel. Takes itís name from Somersetshire, England, the old home of Scriven. One of the principal homes and burial grounds of the Ravenel family for generations. In area to be flooded. Area about 1 acre.
