MILLER CEMETERY

This small cemetery is located on the old Miller survey.   From CR 147 to Cr 178.   The cemetery, located on the south side is on private property.   Fenced but difficult to see from the road.   All the stones are broken and sadly in need of repair.  The cemetery suffered damage in years past from livestock and vandals.   My thanks to Jerry Ware, the present owner, for his invitation to visit this cemetery.  His father remembers there used to be more stones.

End of survey

Remarks: JEREMIAH BANNING is found on the 1870 Cooke Co. census as family #38.   Born in Kentucky, he was 62 years old in 1870 and a wheelwright.   Wife, Matilda C., age 56, was born in Virginia.   With them was 17 year old Dallas Banning, born in Texas.   Jeremiah lived next door to son-in-law Joseph Miller.
Additional family info:  Jeremiah's widow went to live with a daughter, Catherine Ellen Oxford, and died prior to 1910 at a place unknown in the Chickasaw Nation.  The picture of Jeremiah was found in an old trunk of Catherine's after her death in 1910.

JOSEPH MILLER and wife Vianna were family # 37 on the 1870 Cooke census.   Their children are listed as Mary E., age 19; Elizabeth, age 11 and James R.(Riley) was 3 years old. There are several gaps in the children's ages which seem to indicate there may have been other children who possibly died and were buried here.
