James Emmet McAdams and Catharine Sullivan


In 1885, Allegheny County legislation standardized the marriage license process. Prior to 1885, each city had its own requirements. James and Catharine's Marriage License is recorded in the 1880 Ministers' Returns of Marriages in Pittsburgh, PA. It reads:

NOTES: Emmet, called James in most other documents, was the seventh of the nine children of James McAdams and Sarah Fagan. Catharine Sullivan was the daughter of Thomas Sullivan and Catharine Welsh. James and Catharine had four children: Thomas Joseph McAdams, Sr., Lydia, Gertrude, and James Emmett McAdams.
