Alfred L. Pearson was born on December 28th 1836 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Pearson was a Colonel in the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry. He received two brevet promotions. For gallant and distinguished services at the battle of Peeble's Farm, Virginia, on 30 September 1864, he was given the rank of Brevet Brigadier General. On 1 May 1865 he was promoted to Brevet Major General for meritorious services during the Civil War. At Lewis' Farm, Virginia, 29 March 1865, Colonel Pearson "seeing a brigade forced back by the enemy , he seized his regimental color, called his men to follow him, and advanced upon the enemy under a severe fire. The whole brigade took up the advance, the lost ground was regained, and the enemy was repulsed." Pearson's Medal of Honor was issued on 17 September 1897. Following the Civil War Pearson returned to Pittsburg. He practiced Law and held several municipal positions. From 1870 to 1878, Pearson was a Major General in the Pennsylvania National Guard. Alfred L. Pearson died 6 January 1903 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.

NEWS: THE 155TH REUNION The coming reunion of the 155th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, to be held at Clarion on Thursday of next week, July 30th, promises to be a very interesting event. If the weather should be favorable there will be street procession of veterans of many battles such as many never again be seen in Clarion. Among the distinguished visitors from a distance will be General Alfred L. Pearson, of Pittsburgh, who commanded the regiment in the Wilderness and Petersburg campaigns and was promoted to Brigade Commander in the final campaign that closed at Appomattox. It was his brigade, (the 3rd of the 1st division of the 5th Army Corps.) that had the honor of receiving the surrender of Lee's Army on the 12th of April 1865, after the preliminaries had been arranged between Grant and Lee on the 9th . On Thursday night a campfire will be held at the Normal Hall to which the public are invited. members of the Grand Army Posts and veterans generally are invited to participate in the procession on Thursday afternoon. Excursion rates have been secured for the 29th and 30th from all points on the P. & W. Railway. Maj. B. J. Reid has been appointed Chief Marshall on the occasion of the 155th Regimental Reunion and will be obeyed and respected accordingly.
