SPRUILL FAMILY WILLS


ESTHER SPRUILL
October 1, 1817

In the name of God amen this first day of October in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen, I ESTHER SPRUILL of the County of Tyrrell and State of North Carolina being sick in body but of a sound and perfect memory thanks be to almighty God calling to mind the uncertain state of this transatory life and that all flesh must yield unto death when it may please God to call do make constitute ordain and declare this to be my last will and testament and none other revoking and annulling by these presents all and every other will or wills by me made either by word or writing and this only is to be taken for my last will and testament and none other and first of all I recommend my soul unto almighty God whenever it may be his good pleasure to call and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner by my executor hereafter named and my temporal Estate that it hath please God to bestow on me I give and dispose of in the following manner to wit

ITEM.  I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son ZEBULON SPRUILL his heirs and assigns forever one moeity or half part of Negro boy HARMAN after the death of my father JOHN TARKINTON SENIOUR

ITEM.  I lend unto my well beloved daughter PENINNAH McKIMMY during her natural life one moeity or half part of a Negro boy HARMON after the death of my father JOHN TARKINTON and after the death of my daughter PENNINNAH McKIMMY I give and bequeath the said moiety or half part of Negro HARMAN to her children and if no children them to the children of ZEBULON SPRUILL and ESTHER SWAIN their heirs and assigns forever.

ITEM.  I lend unto my well beloved daughter ESTHER SWAIN during hernatural life one Negro girl named BECKA and after her death I give and bequeath Negro girl BECKA to said ESTHER children but if no children then to be equally divided amongst the children of ZEBULON SPRUILL and PENINNAH McKIMMY their heirs and assigns forever.

ITEM.  I give and bequeath unto my well beloved daughter ESTHER SWAIN one bed and furniture to her and heirs forever.

ITEM.  I do hereby appoint my well beloved son ZEBULON SPRUILL executor to this my last will and testament as witness my hand and seal day and date first written.
