Jeremiah Standridge's Death Certificate
Showing unusual spelling of first name and other data.

Jeremiah "Jerry"3 Standridge (John Wesley2, Alexander1) was born December 25, 1834 in Carroll County, Arkansas, and died February 18, 1917 in Richland Township, Newton County, Arkansas. He married (1) Nancy Cagle March 15, 1856 in Pope County, Arkansas, daughter of Henry Cagle and Martha Unknown. She was born 1837 in Warren County, Tenneessee, and died October 20, 1880 in Americus, Lyon County, Kansas. He married (2) Telitha J. "Dett" (twin) Jones February 27, 1881 in Pope County, Arkansas, daughter of John Jones and Alafair/Alipher. She was born 1844 in Richland Township, Newton County, Arkansas, and died June 25, 1886 in Richland Township, Newton County, Arkansas. He married (3) Rhoda Harris September 29, 1889 in Quincy, Newton County, Arkansas, daughter of John Harris. She was born January 05, 1861 in Alabama, and died August 26, 1942 in Van Buren County, Arkansas.
Jerry was inlisted in Company C.1st. Arkansas Infanty. Volunteers, Union At Fayetteville, Arkansas, on February 12, 1863, and he was discharged on August 10, 1865, at Ft. Smith Arkansas. He was six feet three inches tall and had gray eyes, hair was dark and his complexion was dark. During the Civil War Jerry's Military records shows him as deserted and absent on detached service with a Captain Vanderpool . It could be due to a difference in or philosophy in the person who took the roll or it could have just been a mass confusion.

Jerry would marry two more times. He was widowed twice and had about 23 children.
Jerry is buried at Moore Cemetery, He is just inside the south gate, with a grave marked with a Military marker.

(living next to Abner Brassfield age 22, Jessy Gaylen, and under her is Ruben Belvin and family. I think she died in childbirth??
Name was Telitha "Dett" Jones Meek Standridge, her last name was found, on the Old Settlers roll along with her father John and brother and sisters and her children and nephew and nieces. Elizabeth Standridge Felkins Jones Gaylean, her two sons Lemuel Alexander and Lewis Howard Jones, also found on this roll. Also a John Brassfield, information found by by David J. Williams.

I have his death certificate Rhoda was the informant, died of old age.
Good thing they did not put full dates on his headstone just the year's

P.S. was there a James township, Newton County, Arkansas ?? Rhoda is living in Moore, Newton, Arkansas on the death Certificate. what would you use Moore or James?

Death certificates are filled out by third parties when the person requesting them can not read and write or at least not well. This is way the form has the spelling Gerry. I do wish Rhoda had know Jeremiah's mother's name. I still believe she was a sister to Alapher Jones. John Jones' wife. I am almost certain their maiden name was Meek.
