AUCKLAND, August 18,
There is little doubt but that the vessel reported by Natives as wrecked on the coast a few miles south of Kaipara Heads, is the schooner Rona, which usually traded to Lyttelton.
She left Auckland in ballast, on August 1, and was due at Kaipara quite a week ago. Further particulars received today state that the Maoris say that yards, blocks, and one anchor are upon the beach, the vessel being buried in sand, all but her copper.
The Rona was commanded by Captain Kenneth McKENZIE, half owner, who has had charge of her since she was built, two and a half years ago. He has a wife and four children, residing at Oamaru.
The names of the crew are Robert SMITH, Neil CARMICHAEL, Charles JOHNSON, and William EAGLE.
The vessel was insured for 400, only about half her value. D. H. McKenzie owns a half interest.
