Died March 16, 1985

Rev. Odis David Hampton,* 84, of Ross Arrants apartments in Athens, died Saturday at Athens Community Hospital.

A native of Cherokee County in North Carolina and resident of McMinn County for 82 years, he was a son of the late William M. and Nancy (Woody) Hampton. He was a member of West End Baptist Church and of the Junior Order. He was a Baptist minister for 50 years, founder of Antioch Baptist Church, and built and organized 27 other churches.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Edith (Cardin) Hampton; one son L. E. Hampton; one daughter, Mrs. (W. S.) Clara Melton of Athens; three sisters, Mrs. James (Ella) Burton, Mrs. W. T. (Della) Burger, both of Athens and Mrs. Mintie Jackson of Chattanooga; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were to be 2 P. M. today in Laycock Funeral Home with the Rev. Herman Jordan, Dr. William G. Morris and the Rev. David Grisham officiating. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Brian and Randy Puett, Jeff Melton, Billy, Kenny, Mark, Junior, and Larry Hampton. Honorary pall bearers were deacons of the West End Baptist Church.
