SYLVESTER H. RAY
Funeral
services for Sylvester Henry Ray, 73, route two, who died at 9 a.m. yesterday
at a local hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McAllister-Julian
funeral home, 304 North 5th street. Mrs. Carrie Dedmody of the First Spirtualist
church will officiate. Burial will be in the Harlem cemetery.
Mr. Ray
had been in failing health for more than a year, and seriously ill the
past six months. Born at Ottumwa, Ia., Oct. 29, 1868, he had lived
in Rockford and on route 2 for the past 45 years. Recently he had made
his home with a daughter, Mrs. Roy Riche of Davis, Ill. A farmer for many
years, he was later employed as a molder in Rockford.
Other
survivors are a daughter, Mrs. William Rogers of Harlem; a son, Lynn C.
of Loves Park; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His wife,
Jennie, predeceased him.
Mr. Ray
was a member of the First Spiritualist church and of the Roscoe Masonic
lodge.
