Sylvester H. Ray
Funeral
services for Sylvester Henry Ray, 73, route two, who died at 9 a.m. yesterday
at a local hospital after a lingering illness, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday
at the McAllister-Julian funeral home, 304 North 5th street. Mrs. Carrie
Dedmondy of the First Spirtualist church will officiate, and burial will
be in Harlem cemetery.
Mr. Ray
was born Oct. 29, 1868, in Ottumwa, Ia., and had lived in Rockford and
on route two for the past 45 years. Recently he had made his home with
a daughter, Mrs. Roy Riche, of Davis, Ill. A farmer for many years, he
later was employed as a moulder in Rockford.
Other
survivors include a daughter, Mrs. William Rogers, of Harlem; a son, Lynn
C., of Loves Park; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His
wife, Jennie, preceded him in death.
