Over 150 friends and relatives attended the 60th wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Luther M. Pierce Sunday in their home in Bureau township.
The anniversary cake was baked and decorated by their granddaughter, Dorothy Braasch, and was placed along with the silver wedding gifts and a centerpiece of roses and baby mums on the serving table. The table was covered with a cloth which was 60 years old.

Among the many gifts received by the honorees was a memory book. Mrs. Pierce also received as an anniversary gift from Mr. Pierce, a star sapphire necklace and earring set.
The former Elizabeth Vaughn and Luther M. Pierce were married Oct. 26, 1892, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Vaughn, four miles north of Wyanet. The Vaughn home was one of the first homesteads in Bureau county. The Rev. Thomas Warrington, Wyanet, officiated at the service. They started their married life on a farm one half mile north of the Bureau Township school, moving to their present home in 1895.
