Mercy HALLETT
b. about 1689, the daughter of John and Mercy (HOWES) HALLET
d. 8 Nov 1773 in Wareham

Joshua and Mercy settled in the section of Plymouth known as the Awagam plantation, where they raised their family. In 1739 this area was established as the town of Wareham. In 1742, they sold the home farm, and after that likely lived with their children. John was a deacon in the First Church there.

Children of Joshua and Mercy Gibbs:

1. Temperance Gibbs, b. 5 Oct 1712; d. 8 Dec 1748. She m. Zaccheus BURGES (int) 12 Apr 1735. They had children Josiah, Ruth, Thomas, Elisha, Jedidah, and Mary.
2. Ruth Gibbs, b. 9 May 1715. She m. Thomas HAMBLEN 6 Feb 1734. They had children Jabez, Amasa, Nathaniel, Zilpha, Mercy, Ruth, Thomas, John, Zilpha, and Asa.
3. Mercy Gibbs, b. 11 Jan 1717/18. She m. Isaac HAMBLEN 20 Feb 1737/38. They had children Seth, Isaac, Perez, John, Jehiel, Jesse, Cyrenius, Mercy, and Asa.
4. Elizabeth 'Betty' Gibbs, b. 27 Aug 1720.
5. Joshua Gibbs, b. 5 Mar 1723/24; d. 22 May 1793 in Wareham. He m. (1) Rebecca SWIFT 10 Nov 1748 in Sandwich. They had children Mercy, Joshua, and Rebecca. He m. (2) Hannah HASKELL 23 Nov 1758 in Rochester. They had children Rebecca, Joseph, Bethia, Abraham, Andrew, Bethia, Abigail, George, George, and Moses.
6. John Gibbs, b. 23 Jul 1725; d. Wareham 17 Jan 1801. He m. Deborah DOTEY 9 Mar 1748/49 in Wareham. They had children Temperance, Ruth, John, Temperance, Benjamin, Mercy, Betty, Rowland, Ansel, and Olive.
7. Phebe Gibbs, b. 28 Nov 1727; d. 2 Aug 1816 in Wareham. She m. Barnabas BATES 6 Jun 1747. They had children Barnabas, Joseph, Elizabeth, Asa, Samuel, Thomas, Phebe, Abigail, Mercy, Zilpha, Joshua, John, and Isaac.
