Clement and Anne moved from Lydd to Biddenden about 1624. They immigrated to New England 6 Apr 1635, settling in Hingham. He was a tailor.

Children of Clement and Ann Bates (first two b. Lydd, next four b. Biddenden, last one b. Hingham):

1. James Bates, b. 1621; d. Hingham 5 Jul 1689. He m. Ruth LYFORD 19 Apr 1643 in Hingham. They had children Hopestill, Clement, James, John, Ruth, Joseph, Benjamin, Solomon, Rachel, Sarah, and an unnamed child.
2. Clement Bates, b. 1623; d. Hingham Nov 1639.
3. John Bates, b. 18 Oct 1624; d. (bur) 18 Dec 1624.
4. Rachel Bates, b. 1627; d. Jun 1647.
5. Joseph Bates, bp. 28 Sep 1628; d. Hingham 30 Apr 1706. He m. Esther HILLARD 9 Jan 1655/56 in Hingham. They had children Joseph, Esther, Caleb, Hannah, Joshua, Bathsheba, Clement, Eleanor, and Abigail.
6. unnamed child, d. (bur) 2 Apr 1631.
7. Benjamin Bates, b. 1633; d. Hingham 28 Nov 1678. He m. Jane WEEKS.
8. Samuel Bates.
