George Peterson grew up on the docks of New York City, migrating west to Rockford in 1854, as a young man. He was a machinist by trade, becoming a successful businessman, the owner of a manufacturing plant, and a prominent citizen of the community.

1. Jennie Bessie Peterson, b. 15 Jul 1869.
2. Carrie May Peterson, b. 21 Mar 1865; d. 9 May 1960 in Rockford. She m. William Grantley SHAPLEY 20 Mar 1890 in Rockford. They had child Ralph.
3. Martha Maude Peterson, b. 17 Aug 1876; d. 26 Nov 1948 in Rockford. She m. Lynn Curtis TREADWELL 12 May 1899 in Rockford.
4. Gertrude Peterson, b. 13 Jun 1878; d. 13 Nov 1888 in Rockford.
