Heinrich and Dorathea, with their 4 children, immigrated from Germany to America in 1852 aboard the Johann Schmidt (sailing from Breman to New Orleans). Two of the children died enroute. The family settled in rural Rock Run Township, Stephenson Co., IL, in a German-immigrant area known locally as Epleyanna (just west of Davis). They had 3 more children in Davis.

The family name, Böke in German, was anglicized to Boeke, and eventually to Bakey.

Heinrich and Dorathea are buried in the cemetery at St. Paul's church (Epleyanna). Their gravesites do not have markers.

Children of Heinrich and Dorathea Boeke:

  1. Heinrich Friederick Phill. Edward Boeke, b. 17 Jan 1844.
  2. Wilhelmina Boeke, b. 1846.
  3. Louise Boeke, b. 1848; d. 20 Mar 1852 while enroute to US.
  4. Wilholm Boeke, b. 1851; d. 23 Mar 1852 while enroute to US.
  5. Letta Boeke, b. 1854.
  6. Fredericke Wilhelmina Louise Boeke, b. 1 Mar 1856.
  7. Caroline Maria Boeke, b. 8 Jan 1859; d. 31 Jan 1933. She never married and had no issue.
