John Scarbrough was brought to America as a youth by his father, an early pioneer in the Bucks Co. area. According to tradition, he lived among the Indians for several years while growing up, and remained on good terms with them. He m. Mary --?-- about 1690 in Middletown. He settled there, taking over his father’s property. He moved to Solebury in 1700, the first white settler in the Solebury valley. He was a farmer and a Quaker minister.
