Joanna THOMAS
b. 1657 in Marblehead, MA, the daughter of David and Joanna THOMAS
d. 11 Apr 1718 in Middleborough

Joseph was elected a selectman in 1689, serving 25 years in that capacity. He was a seaman, being called an Ensign in 1706 and a Leuitenant in 1712. They were members of the First Church of Middleborough.

Joseph married second Mrs. Mercy (HALLETT) FULLER on 2 Dec 1720 in Middleborough. She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (GORHAM) HALLETT and the widow of Jabez FULLER. She passed away 2 Mar 1733/34, and Joseph passed away a day later. On his gravestone are the words "Job 14, Chap 10,11,12 verses." This passage reads:
 

"But man dieth, and wasteth away; yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he? As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up; so man lieth down, and riseth not till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep."

Children of Jospeh and Joanna Vaughan:

1. Elisha Vaughan, b. 7 Feb 1680/81;  d. 23 May 1724 in Middleborough. He m. Joanna MORTON 3 Jul 1705 in Middleborough. They had children Hencksman, Sarah, Thankfull, Mercy, Thomas, and Hannah.
2. Jabez Vaughan, b. 30 Apr 1682;  d. 13 Apr 1773 in Middleborough. He m. Deborah BENNETT 23 Nov 1711 in Middleborough. They had children Daniel, Elizabeth, Hannah, Deborah, Joanna, an unnamed daughter, Jabez, and Ebenezer.
3. George Vaughan, b. 3 Oct 1683.
4. Ebenezer Vaughan, b. 22 Feb 1684/85.
5. Elizabeth Vaughan, b. 7 Mar 1686/87. She m. Jonathan COBB Dec 1711 in Middleborough.
6. Hannah Vaughan, b. 18 Nov 1688;  d. 6 Apr 1715 in Middleborough.
7. Joseph Vaughan, b. 2 Oct 1690;  d. 5 Apr 1718 in Middleborough.
8. John Vaughan, b. 8 Sep 1692;  d. 8 May 1770 in Middleborough. He m. (1) Sally CUSHMAN. He m. (2) Jerusha WOOD 9 Feb 1717/18 in Middleborough. They had children Joseph, John, Jerusha, Elisha, Joanna, Mercy, Jesse, Abijah, and Mary.
9. Mary Vaughan, b. 6 Oct 1694.
10. Josiah Vaughan, b. 2 Feb 1698/99;  d. 13 Feb 1723/24 in Middleborough.
11. Joanna Vaughan, b. 26 Jan 1701/02;  m. William SAMPSON 24 Aug 1721 in Plympton, MA.
