Joseph was elected a selectman in 1689, serving 25 years in that capacity. He was a seaman, being called an Ensign in 1706 and a Leuitenant in 1712. They were members of the First Church of Middleborough.
Joseph married second Mrs.
Mercy (HALLETT) FULLER on 2 Dec 1720 in Middleborough. She was the daughter
of Joseph and Elizabeth (GORHAM) HALLETT and the widow of Jabez FULLER.
She passed away 2 Mar 1733/34, and Joseph passed away a day later. On his
gravestone are the words "Job 14, Chap 10,11,12 verses." This passage reads:
"But man dieth, and wasteth away; yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he? As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up; so man lieth down, and riseth not till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep."
