Linda, I'm one of the Virginia Slone/Sloan/Sloane's. My roots are in Franklin County, Va. My Great,Great (8 generations back) James Sloan and his sons were petetioners for Franklin County to become a county formed from parts of Bedford and Henry Counties. Linda - My grandmother, Susie Sloan/Slone Robertson was born and raised in Franklin County, VA and must related somehow. There were, I think, about 8 children in her family: brothers Jim, Ed, Tom, and Robert, sisters: Oney Lee and Lee Oney (they were twins) Ginny, Sally, and my grandmother, Susie, who was a wonderful and caring person. To my knowledge, my grandmother, Susie was the only one of the children in her family who left the country (Franklin County) and went to work in the big city, Roanoke. She always helped her family in every way she could and raised many of the Slone/Sloan adult children by giving them a place to live and helping them find work. Many of them stayed with her in Roanoke until they married and went out on their own. She was forever sending staples (flour, sugar, etc.) and clothes to her family back home.
