Grassland to Grainland

I was born on a farm south of Reward in 1913. I took all my schooling at Ear Lake School, up to grade 8. I then quit school to help my dad on the farm. When I was 16, I started working out for different farmers in the district.

I came to the Unity area in 1937 where I met and married Christine Schell. We farmed three miles east of Unity for 20 years. In 1973, Christine passed away and in 1974, I sold the farm and am now retired and living in Unity. We had six boys - Willie, Tom and Jerry live in Calgary; Fay and Jim in Debourne, Alta., and David in Edmonton, Alta. I also have three granddaughters and on grandson.
