Heritage Of Hope 1905-1983 Friday, January 19, 2001 LEO HUHN FAMILY Leo Kuhn was born to Kasmir and Catherine in 1895, July 12 in the village of Rosenthall, Crimea, Russia. Leo had three sisters and two brothers, Leo was the youngest. At 5 years old moved to Orenburg, Russia. In April of 1914 at age 18 he came to Canada. Landed in Halifax, then took the train to Winnipeg. Worked at Sheas Brewery for 3 years, in 1917 came to Macklin and worked for Joe Reinbold. Farmed in Alberta for 1 year, then came back to Sask., and farmed south of Macklin. In 1921, Nov 8, Leo married Julianna Yeli in 1922 moved north of Denzil, and farmed for 1 summer. In 1927, they moved to a farm 3 miles west of Reward, Sask, which is still being farmed by their son Ray. Reward wasn't there yet so they had a to their grain to Salvador till 1930. In 1931, the railroad came to Reward and then they hauled grain to Reward. Julianna Yeli was born (Aug 18) to Anton and Katherine Yeli in 1903 in Simpferopal, Crimea, Russia. Julia had 4 sisters and 1 brother. Julia was the youngest, she came to Canada at the age of 5, they landed in Battleford. In 1908, her parents took up a homestead. At the time Primate nor Macklin were not there, they had to go to Battleford for groceries till 1912. Leo and Julia farmed till 1960. In 1959, moved to Unity till 1967, then moved to Calgary. Stayed in Calgary for 10 years. Then moved back to Unity for 3 years. Then in 1979 they moved to a Senior Citizen Apartment in Calgary. Julianna took sick in Sept. 1982 and passed away Oct. 2, 1982. Leo and Julia celebrated their 50th anniversary November 8th, 1971 and their 60th November 8, 1981. Leo and Julia had 11 children: Twins Hilda at Calgary-Lillian passed away at the age of 2. Pius of Calgary, Joseph passed away at the age of 5. Peter of Reward, Lucy of Calgary, Helen of Unity, John of Unity, Arnold of Calgary, Ray of Reward and Larry of Calgary. They also have 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Leo Kuhn also served on the Donegal School Board. At the time of this writing November 22, 1983, Leo Kuhn is residing in the Father Lacombe Home in Calgary at the age of 88.
