Heritage Of Hope 1905-1983 Friday, January 19, 2001 JAMES PETER LEIER James Peter Leier was born in Odessa, Russia on March 31, 1909 and came to Saskatchewan in 1910. He attended the Koehmstedt School and they college in Winnipeg, Manitoba, obtaining his grade nine. On August 25, 1933, he married Agnes Catherine Hackle and they had four children. Patricia June, born June 13, 1934; James Anthony, born November 13, 1936; Donald Roderick, born June 28, 1939; and Joseph Benedict, born October 18, 1941. James Peter farmed and had Imperial Oil and Massey Harris in Reward until he purchased the Marlboro Hotel in Prince Albert in 1944. On September 24, 1951, Agnes passed away along with their infant son John James. One October 1, 1952, he married Adelle Margaret Ritz. In 1952, he moved to Saskatoon and operated Dominion Motors until 1962. In 1962, he purchased the King George Hotel and built the Sheraton Cavlier Motor Inn. In 1957, he founded the Our Lady of the Prairies Foundation, a charitable organization which helps people in need. In 1962, he was made an honorary member of the Oblate Order and in 1967, he received the Papal Medal for outstanding service to the church. He was made a life member of the Hotels Association of Saskatchewan in 1968. James Peter Leier passed away on May 26, 1972 in Saskatoon.
