8:02 PM 4/16/99 Wilkie - Harest Of Memories Page 410-11 GEORGE FREHLICH George Frehlich was born in Odessa Russia in 1902. At the age of six months, he crossed the ocean with his family and settled on a farm near Towner ND. They farmed there until 1906 when the family moved north to homestead near Tramping Lake. At the early age of 14, George started working on neighbouring farms. In 1924, he married 17 year old Katharina Mitzel and bought a quarter section farm near Tramping Lake. He later sold this quarter section and bought a hall section, also close to Tramping Lake. In 1943, George moved his family to a one-half section farm one mile north of Wilkie. Over the years, he bought and rented land in the surrounding area and at one time was farming six quarters. George and Katharina retired in 1966 and moved into Wilkie. George passed away in the spring of 1981, leaving behind his wife and six children. The eldest son, Mathew, married Kay Fenrich in 1950 and took up farming just north of Wilkie. He eventually purchased the original family farm. Ray moved south to Estevan to work on the oil rigs and in 1957 he married Doris Boire from Estevan. He is presently owner/manager of Petro Chem and Prairie Mud of Estevan. Margaret, the oldest daughter, obtained her nursing diploma in Edmonton and worked in North Battleford and then Regina. It was in Regina that she met Don Bard whom she married in 1963. They now resided in New Westminister, California, where she is floor supervisor at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital. Her husband, Don, is a salesman for a California paper company. Wilfred moved to Drumheller to work on the oil rigs. There he met Gloria McDonald whom he married in 1963. He presently lives in Drumheller where he is self-employed as a carpenter. Eugene worked on the oil rigs for several years and in the potash mines near Saskatoon. In 1964, he married Irene Droesse from Scott. They now live in Taber, AB. where he is maintenance supervisor of St. Patrick's School. Jenny the youngest of the children, obtained her education degree at the University of Saskatchewan and then went to teach in Lloydminister. It was here she met Ray Tymko whom she married in 1967. They presently reside in Taber Alta,. where Ray owns and operates a rental shop, car wash and bottle exchange depot.
