      KARL DEGENSTEIN Nov.04, 1857-Nov.14, 1949/Mannheim 7 children Barbara Froelich 1867-1907/Mannheim Karl was married three times during his life. Karl's first marriage ended with the death of his wife and baby girl during childbirth. He remarried Barbara Froelich born to Jacob Froelich and Mary Giesinger of Mannheim. The family emigrated from Russia and went to the United States, arriving at Devils Lake, North Dakota in 1902. A certificate of the GENERAL LAND OFFICE of the United States dated April 1, 1905 (cetificate # 14257) states that he was granted 160 acres of land in McHenry county North Dakota. APPLICATION FOR A HOMESTEAD ENTRY BY AN AGENT # 7440, shows that Karl applied for a homestead on the NE of section 24-37-22-W3 dated June 28, 1905 in CANADA. These documents show that Karl left the states in 1905 to homestead in the Tramping Lake area at Revenue, Saskatchewan. He built a 14X20 sod house in May of 1906. He also broke and seeded 10 acres of crop that year, by 1908 he was up to 50 acres of crop. Revenue was named Selz before it was named Revenue. Barbara passed away at Revenue in 1907, and was buried from the St. Charles Catholic Church. Barbara was the first adult to pass away in the area, called Tramping Lake in St. Joseph's Colony. Karl remarried Helen Fauth (Grunewald) on June 12, 1911 at SE.10-38-21-W3. Karl passed away at North Battleford, Sask. All of Karl and Barbara's children were born at Mannheim, Russia. ***Karl's death certificate says he was born Aug. 15, 1857.*** Helen Fauth (Grunewald) remarried Jun.12, 1911 at SE.10-38-21-3 Saskatchewan.

      PETER DEGENSTEIN Aug.15, 1886-Dec.06, 1986/Mannheim +15 children Rosa Yelli Jan.24, 1889-Jan.28, 1981/Odessa RU + married Sep.08, 1909 Rosa was the daughter of Anton Yelli and Katherine Dyck. Peter came to the United States with his parents in 1902. In 1905 he left for the Tramping Lake area in Saskatchewan, Canada, where he laid claim to a homestead at Revenue. Rosa came with her family to this area in 1908. Rosa was born to Anton Yelli and Katherine Dick who came from the Simpferpol in the Crimea, (Krym). This area was known for wine growing, located on a peninsula in the Black Sea near Odessa, Russia. In Revenue, Peter hauled freight for several years between Tramping Lake and Battleford, Sask. They lived at Revenue until 1917 then moved to Macklin, Sask. They lived at Macklin until 1932 then moved to the Battleford area to farm in the Lindequist and Eagle Valley Disticts until 1952 when they retired in North Battleford. Peter and Rosa lived in their own home on 109th St. until 1976, when they moved in with their daughter Marzelina and family in North Battleford. They celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary on July 13, 1974. No doubt after these many years since they said their marriage vows for the first time, their memories recalled in contrast circumstances, the difficult time of the earlier years in their quest to make their life on the prairie a productive venture. Officiating at the celebration at Notre Dame Church in North Battleford were Rev, D. La France, and Rev. R. Jourdain from Battleford. Attendants for the couple were a sister and a brother-in-law of Mrs. Rosa Degenstein. A granddaughter of the couple, Faye Degenstien, provided organ music for the occasion during the ceremany. A reception followed the services, with decoration of yellow mums and daisies which complimented the wedding cake. Roy Greiber, son-in- law of the couple acted as Master of Cermonies at the affair, and Peter Degenstein Jr. spoke on behalf of the family. Congratulatory messages and telegrams were received for the Queen, Prime Minister Trudeau, Lieutenant Governor S. Worobetz, Premier Allan Blakeney, MLA Eiling Kramer, MP Cliff McIssac,Mayor W.C. Clements of North Battleford, Mayor George Leibel of Battleford, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Ryce, brother-in-law and sister of Mrs. Rosa Degenstein, from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, and a granddaughter, Mrs Joan Swales and husband Bill from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. All 12 of their children with their spouses were in attendance. Also, 58 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and relatives from other areas were present for the occasion, coming from: Kelowna and Kitimat BC, Meadow Lake, Macklin, Unity, Rutland, Reward, Regina SK, Winnipeg MB and Provost Alberta, Canada.
