Marie Louise Falcon

- Carol Vulliamy

Marie Louise Falcon- 1881

Marie Louise was a small child during the Rebellion of 1885.

Worried looks, hushed conversations, daily plans to contrive.

Uncle Onesime owns a River Lot. He says, Theyll take it away!

I dont understand but I feel scared; we may die the adults say.

Uncle Athanase joined the Rebellion of 1885, the battle to win.

Metis were scattered and shattered; nothing where homes had been.

Like many of the Metis people, they moved west and north-

Batoche was no place to stay. Metis were left hiding with no recourse.

Conversations mumbled, the Metis may conceal their race.

French Canadian is safer; their land titles will not erase.

As with all tragedy, the pain fades and life moves forward.

Marie Louise met Joseph Landry; finding love straightforward.

In time they received Scrip and felt they did belong.

We have a new life; our buffalo hunts forever are gone.

We have grandchildren now who brighten our days

Gilbert lovingly recalls doing jobs for granny for pay.
