Louise Laframboise- 1810
My children were my
precious dears- I wiped away each tear
I worried with the unrest
of this time, youth knew not fear
It is hard to preach stability with discord and
anger all around
Instability challenged the Metis people as
conflicts did abound.
The young people are so vulnerable with values
now tested
They can scarcely search for stability when they
feel detested.
Some say the Metis are not
liked by their blood ancestry.
We are really struggling for identity and self
worth- our keys.
Isidore married twice- to Judith Parenteau, then
Marie Cheyenne
His daughter Georgine married Clifford Howard, a
good man.
Little did they know that Cliff had Royal blood
ties in his hand.
Two hundred years later
we grieve her death- her story in sand.
My daughter Pelagie married
Jean Baptiste Parenteau in vain
Stability is taught by
example, not living in oppressive shame.
The Metis are a strong resilient people who will
rise tomorrow
We will have to grieve our losses lest we live
forever in sorrow.
