Gabriel Dumont

Gabriel Dumont-1837

Gabriel grew up to become a great leader of the Metis Nation

Six dialects he learned for easy fluency and foundation.

Knowledge of the countryside and political unrest he knew,

I will commit to preserving justice and Metis land accrued.

1885; land titles gone- Metis loosing homes they treasured

A Rebellion ensued as Metis River Lots were re-measured

Homes, food, and livelihood- everything was gone now.

How can we survive with nothing left but furled brows?

Gabriel Dumont scattered with the rest; no choices left

Road allowance and wilderness became a place to rest.

A broken spirit was the Metis possession for now

Too much injustice; the Government will now disavow.

One final effort to seek the Metis land now removed-

Riel and Dumont returned for compensation proved.

Riel was arrested and charged with high treason

He was hung in November 1885- death without reason.
