The Role of Women at the Turn of the Century
What It Takes

Give three cheers and a hearty hand to the woman who can seemingly
without special effort, make any hut or hovel a home instead of
just a place to live. Somehow, under the hands of the true homemaker,
a few cents spent for fresh paint and curtains and a drab dingy room
is transformed into a liveable and cheerful room. A few cherished pictures
on the wall and simple but clean table covers, dresser runners and doilies
do much to liven the atmosphere. A bright red flower blooming on the window
sill, a softly lighted room and the smell of good wholesome cooking greets
one entering a homemaker's home. even the children's playthings scattered do
not look cluttered or out of place. The spirit of love and homemaking permeates
the whole dwelling, changing it from a place to a home. No amount of moving and
the resulting "getting settled" affects the atmosphere in such a home. That is
the true homemaker's touch.
