Poem for
Olive Howard nee Howse

Olive Howard nee Howse

A proud ancestry of fur traders and explorers Olive came from

Survival and success meant they must have courage not glum

Olive learned these lessons well as adversity she must quell

Tough times she could not escape; somehow she must rebel.

A family of eight Olive and Ezra were blessed to care for

At a young age these children learned the meaning of chore.

These children could cook, clean and chop wood for fire

In challenging times this family had any skill they desired.

Olive taught her family the blessings of her faith in God

Salvation and spiritual nurturing she desired over rod

As Olive dutifully cleaned and baked for her loved ones

There were always lots to eat and time for frolic and fun.

Company they often had and Olive would bake a cake

A true delight with burnt bottom she’d always make.

We loved her hospitality- happy times sure to unfold

Moonlight sledding and horse drawn sleighs for the bold.

Written To Honor the Beauty We All Saw Within Olive.
