Gertrude Howard nee Van Metre
Gertie was born to adorn the Howard clan
with her excellence acquired.
At a tender young age she could
cook, clean, garden and stoke a good fire.
Life meant daily tasks as well as
fond memories of large family socials
Her family was so large that a hall
would be filled and that’s not boastful.
We love Gertie’s wonderful ways;
success surrounds her gracious charm
Winning ways for sure- she owes
much to her lessons learned on the farm.
Being a team player is required by
all- how else would the work ever end?
This valuable classroom taught her
responsibility for self and others-amen.
Being the eldest daughter of five
made Gertie special to grannies close by
She has our names and “I’m sure all
of her goodness comes from our side.”
Look at her grow with perfection
they claimed; who could want for more?
We’ll love this beautiful girl of
ours forever- she’s too good to do chores!
Now a young woman, Gertie noticed
that Wendell always seemed close by
He is so handsome and a wonderful dancer;
we could have fun she sighed.
With cautious care Wendell asked
her for a Sunday date consisting of four
A lifetime of camaraderie and
friendship they enjoyed behind closed doors.
